OK guys, the LCMS church board recently made me an offer to take the primary pastoral duties of a large mission church in Papua New Guinea, about an hour north of Port Moesby.
After thinking about it, the wife and I have decided to take the offer. The money isn't great, and I'm going to have to agree to teach the hard-core Lutheran church line, but how often am I going to have this kind of opportunity for adventure? One last big hurrah before drifting off to retirement. Who knows? Maybe we'll love it there and never want to come back. I am getting damn sick of North American winters.
We leave in May, and I won't have regular internet access for the foreseeable future. It has been great getting to know all of you, and if you are ever in Port Moesby, come on up and visit. It's the "Christ Our Savior Mission Complex" in Efogi, Papua New Guinea.
Until we next meet, be well. Be happy. Be yourselves, my friends.

You'll be greatly missed, Sandman.
If I could smuggle myself in your suitcase, I would.

Best of luck, Sandman. I hope it all works out for you and return sometime in the future. After all, you've got a good 40-50 years to think about retirement.

We are excited. The church has agreed to pay all of our moving expenses, as well as language classes and something they call "Cultural Adaptation Training." Apparently Mrs. the Sandman is going to have to learn to go topless. She is....hesitant, but game.
