Us Vs Them mentality of Conservatives
« Thread Started on Nov 27, 2011, 12:40pm »

Something I've picked up on when it comes to conservative debate tactics is how they like to make everything a Liberal Vs Conservative issue. Corporal Punishment? It's those sissy Liberals. Gay Marriage? But they're not respecting our bigoted views!!! Death Penalty? Damn Liberals!!!! It's not about why their view is right, but about why the Liberals are hypocrites. Some of these guys will go to any desperate length to find something to criticize Obama or any other Liberal (or anyone who's not conservative) just to say "HA! YOU LIBERALS AREN'T PERFECT!".

The thing is, some of these issues shouldn't have to be debated anymore, but the extreme conservatives still cling to their outdated views as if they're actually valid. Then we end up defending ourselves from ad homien attacks that are only distracting from the real issues. I guess the left is guilty of the same thing (and by default I am for bringing this up), but not nearly as much as the right.

Have you seen some of the things conservatives tell each other about liberals?

It's like we're a bogeyman or something.

I know! Those conservatives are all upside-down on this issue and others.

They're starting to ken to the idea that maybe the world realizes they've got their collective heads up their asses, and they're desperate to point out problems elsewhere as a distraction. They've always been big on "do as I say, not as I do" tactics, so calling them on their hypocracy and asshattery out in plain view where everyone can hear it just chaps their ass.

Divide and conquer. It's also easier to justify paying women and minorities lower wages if they are treated as second-class citizens by society in general.

Let me add another thing, a lot of them have a persecution complex like WHOA!

They act like everyone is out to get them just because we're sick of their barbaric outdated views. GOD DAMN IT!! HAVING A DIFFERENT POLITICAL VIEW DOES NOT YOU FREE FROM CRITICISM!! It's not the same as being picked on for something you can't help, like skin color or gender. You can change your political views based on information, so when you take such an extreme view, than you damn well better defend it!!

Hello, new signature.

As for the OP, I can't help but wonder what's going through their minds when they use the Us vs. Them arguments. Is it a conscious, honest-to-jebus belief? Mob mentality? Cocaine?

Relevant part starts around 4:30. And then again around 8:00. I know I'm kind of shooting myself in the foot to post a video where a neuroscientist compares libertarianism to psychopathy, but the Randroid crowd fits the bill.
