 "It's not fundie"
« Thread Started on Apr 9, 2011, 10:01am »

If I put this in the wrong spot, please by all means move it. Anyway.......

Why so many "It's not fundie" comments on the main page? Taken the way the site is named, the statements themselves don't need to be fundie, only the person saying them. The statements need only be "darndest things" which covers a lot of ground.

Kinda growing tired of reading "It's not fundie....." time and time again in the comments. The shit fundies say is ironic, hilarious, stupid, at times heart-wrenching, anger-inciting...... Who really cares if it's "fundie" or not, it's great reading -- especially after smoking some good shit.

Put it this way. Are most of the things Democrats in America do liberal? No way. But the majority of America thinks its liberal because they've been so used to mainstream conservatism going over the edge that they take the median ground to be liberal, even if the median is shifting right.

Same case. Many times the quotes come from relative newbies who still see certain quotes about predestination, Muslim babies in hell, racist names of Obama and "COME JESUS NOW" quotes as fundies. And they are. But the veterans here are jaded now. Maybe they understand a bigger picture of extremism from being here so long but consciously or not, their standards have shifted. Therefore things that may be shocking and therefore "fundie" to the outside world may no longer be for them.

I think there is a substantial enough volume of comments to warrant a "Sexists..." section, but I, for one, don't mind that they're classified under Fundies.

I mean, apart from the taxonomic argument that one might just as well classify Racists as Fundies, but I think that's a minor thing.

It's really annoying when people claim something isn't fundie. I want to smash their heads.

Wait, actually it kind of is.

Yeah, I don't think it's the "veterans" doing it. Most people who've been on the forum for a while will tell you that they rarely, if ever, read the main page any more. The problem is people who don't bother to look at the Q&A.

And OP, you may as well get used to it. At least 1 person will do that on almost every quote. Especially if Christianity isn't explicitly spelled out. There've been so many posts about people noticing this trend here that I forgot to act surprised.

"Not fundie", along with "poe", are my least favourite comments. If that's all you have to say, we're honestly better off without your comment, thanks.

There's a few times where something is submitted simply because it's religious, even if it's not actually fundie. And there are times something fundie gets submitted in the absence of religion.

The first one shouldn't happen, the second one should be allowed to happen.

Beyond that, fair game.

If you see me typing in "quotes", that's because I'm remembering what it was like to be a fundie and then typing as if I was one :3

I rely on the comments to clear up what is being said in the submission. Like if it's from an event I don't remember hearing about, etc.,

Just saying 'not fundie' or 'poe' are useless comments but I guess until we say you can't post those comments I just have to deal with them.

I think that if you're going to claim something as "not fundie," you should include an explanation as to why you think so. For example, I remember seeing a quote on the main page where multiple people said it wasn't fundie, but went on to explain that it wasn't fundie because the quote was actually mined and taken of of context.

I try my best to have things axed in pub ad when things are just religious and not fundie. There have been quite a few times were a quote just consisted of someone saying they were praying because of a disaster.

It's difficult to get in editing because "Fundie" can be somewhat subjective, even if you actually do take the time to read the FAQ.

I think it's annoying, too. Not so much when someone says it once or twice, but a few months back, when there were a lot of posts from Love Shy, the same person kept saying it over and over again, and nothing else. It's like the only reason they were there was to point out whether or not something was fundie.
