Seems like a lot of people are playing Skyrim, so I thought I would make a thread just for it. You know, to post stories, opinions, hints, questions, screenies, 'chievies, whatever.
I just DL'd it off Steam last night and damn. I barely made it into work this morning. I have rarely been this impressed with a video game before. (I know there are bugs and crashes, but it's Behtesda....we were expecting bugs and crashes. And I gotta admit, as long as they keep making things this amazing, I will be infinitely patient with them.) The graphics are, well, the term "jaw-dropping" would not be amiss, and the story is what you would get if Joss Whedon, Kurt Busiek, and Thomas Mallory had a three-way and produced a love child that was raised by Tolkien.
So I'm torn. I went with a Dark Elf character with an eye towards developing him into a stealth/magic combo, but I keep finding myself leaning more towards a one-hand combat/magic style. Not sure if I am going to reroll or see where it takes me. I love the fact that there are no "classes," just an organic progression of skills.

Well mine is a spellsword like I usually do with a bit of a second-hand lockpicking affinity.
I've got about 7 dragon shouts right now.

I, of course, am doing my first playthrough as a Nord. Not just because it's in Skyrim, but because they're my favorite race.
I started off doing primarily sword and shield combat. However, I wound up doing my combat in stages. I use sneak and a bow for long range, magic and long-sword for medium/close range combat, and shield and sword for close range with numerous or high level enemies.
I've got three shouts right now, one of which I have the first upgraded version of.
I also found a wolfhound that had just finished fighting some wolves. I talked to him, and told him to go home, only realizing afterwards that he would of walked around with me as a companion. *facepalm*

*pokes Oblivion with a stick while waiting for Skyrim to eventually drop down to $20-30*

Yeah, I'm a Nord too only because I didn't know what it would be like to play as an outsider like an Argonian or an Imperial. Even though they treat my Nord as if he doesn't live there.

How does the leveling system work? I'm worried that it might have the Oblivion style everything levels with you. It gets a bit ridiculous when every Highway man has Daedric armor.
I really do want this, but I'm still on the fence on if I should get it now or wait for GOTY edition.

I reached the first city after the prologue and started a conversation with the very first person I met on the street. After heating so many good things about the game I was extremely disappointed that the npc didn't ask who I were, or introduce themselves, but immediately allowed me to talk about their love life and even agreed to let me help. I have seen way too many games with extraordinary graphics to not care about how character interaction is done. Skyrim, like oblivion failed the very first check I made: verisimilitude of character interactions. I will continue playing just to see if this was a fluke, and I admit I may have been spoiled by the worlds of bioware. Also why do the npcs still have the same wooden body motions? They must have enough money to make it more realistic.

I really do want this, but I'm still on the fence on if I should get it now or wait for GOTY edition. Skills only level if you use them. It's completely classless and organic. Your character evolves based 100% on how you play the game. As for enemies leveling, I've haven't found any instances like what you've mentioned so far. I've run into enemies in random encounters that have been much higher level than me and some where they've been much lower, so I don't think that's really going to be an issue.

Is it still 10 skill levels to level you up?

The enemies are more like Morrowind. You might run into an enemy who is five levels above you and you have to level up to have a chance against him.
As for the skills, I think so.

Cool, I much preferred the Morrowind style.
One last question, how bad are the bugs?

Cool, I much preferred the Morrowind style. One last question, how bad are the bugs? I've only ran into a couple, and they were pretty minor. One was where the bones of a dead dragon randomly jumped a few feet in the air before crashing back down, and the other was getting smashed into orbit by the club of a giant who I was waaay too low level to face. The only other glitch I've heard of is that horses sometimes tend to be able to fly through the air a little too easily when hit hard enough to be knocked down. That's really all I've heard of or come across.

I only ran into one myself that dealt with my waypoints.

Of course though, in ANY brand new large open world game, there's going to be a few bugs, but I've seen much worse.
*cough, cough* New Vegas *cough*
