Yep. They're just lucky nobody died, as this is a big enough scandal for them as it is.

Accidents do happen, and I'm sure they took all reasonable safety precautions and had clearance from the authorities for the test. It is a good thing no one was hurt, and the show's insurance will pay for all the damage.
And it's not exactly like screw-ups this big are common. Normally there's nothing more severe than a trampled fence.

I'm glad nobody was hurt.
Safety snafus happen. Even the most paranoid person out there has the potential to overlook something. And sometimes, you fail to prepare for the unexpected properly.

Yeah, it's impossible to foresee every possibility, and sometimes weird shit happens regardless of the preventive measures taken.
It's actually a marvel that they've been doing it as long as they have without a major snafu occurring before now.

Yeah, I'm thinking this is a cover up. The build team finally snapped and decided to become pirates.

[nitpick]SNAFU means "Situation Normal, All Fucked Up." This is not a case of "situation normal" so you shouldn't call it a snafu. Technically.[/nitpick]
This isn't the only time they caused property damage of note. They've sorta been banned from a town because one of their experiments broke some windows and set off a few car alarms. Kari was pregnant at the time and the producer made use of "You can't be mad at a pregnant lady!" logic to try and defuse the situation.

But it has also come to mean, in general terms, any major fuck up that happens outside of normal occurrences. Yeah, I know, that in itself is fucked up, but what ya goin' to do?

"Totally And Royally Fucked Up." Well...actually, the more I look at the extent of the damage caused and the distance the cannon ball traveled, I'm leaning more to FUBAR. "Fucked Up Beyond All Reason."

Shooting stuff out of canons? Meh.
Come back when you've shot a cheese roll out of a musket at someone.
