Hey, who's voting?
What will make fundies more angry? Giving rights to gay people, or destroying marriage and giving rights to gay people?
They'd be pissed either way so there's no use in calling marriage a civil union.
Also, you want it to be called a civil union so the fundies won't get all butthurt. So much for not giving a fuck.

You're completely misunderstanding my point so I'm going to stop making it.
Ironbite-I guess you just don't get it.

Me: Why should we rename marriage to civil union?
Ironbite: So people won't be butthurt that gays can get married
Me: But won't they get more pissed if we take away the rights from marriage?
Ironbite: You shouldn't care if people get butthurt
Yeah, that's your point.
Find me one person who agrees with your plan and disagrees with just letting same sex institutions be called marriage who isn't you. Although I'm not sure even you support this plan in the fullest.
The closest I heard was from a fundie who suggested we take away the benefits from marriage to make it seem undesrible to gays. However, he didn't want civil unions for anyone either. Also, I'm not sure if he was trolling.

I think I should point out, Lexikon, that even I understand what Ironbite is saying here, and it makes sense to me. I'm sure much of the opposition to same-sex marriage is because people will think that if it's legalized, their churches will be forced to marry gay people, or something.

^And those people don't know how churches work.
Much of the opposition to gay marriage is prejudice to the "icky icky gay people" They don't want gay marriage to have the same rights, because it'll encourage gay people to be together. In many states it's legal to fire people for being gay. it has nothing to do with their life, but with how they want others to live.
Now if ironbite could show his plan actually worked, then i'd buy into it, but so far it just seems redundant.

Except for the fact that we've heard the exact argument that churches would be forced to marry the immoral gays and they don't want that.

^I think it's easier to convince people that churches won't be forced to marry same sex couples.
Besides, judges, and business owners will have to see same sex marriage equal to normal marriage, so they'll vote against it anyways.

^I think it's easier to convince people that churches won't be forced to marry same sex couples. Except that's just a red herring. Fundies don't give a shit about churches not being forced to marry same sex couples, they want to keep same sex marriage illegal for Jesus.

The campaign against marriage equality's in trouble now as it's being claimed a petition they had opened was "signed" by individuals who actually share the opposing view. Although if we're being honest it says less about the anti-equality campaign than it does about the value of internet petitions.

No, you don't. You claim that we should rename marriage to make homophobes happy, when that's not even a real argument
