The baby was under the knife as well, so the fingers probably were limp. Thus gravity took over.

I don't get why would it matter? Grasping is a reflex. The bar the fundies set for what qualifies the fetus for personhood is so low that it could be passed by animals, not necessarily higher animals, and in some cases bacteria. They call out scientific rationalists for an allegedly reductionist view of life, and yet are perfectly willing to reduce the essence of humanity to a few biochemical processes and DNA sequences.

Here's a question for them. If that fetus was awake enough to grasp the doctors finger, isn't he being a monster by operating on it? That would be pure torture.
