Right now they've got more Ancient Aliens bullshit on. While I'm of the belief the universe is far too large for there to NOT be alien life out there, and I'd LIKE to believe we've been visited, my rational mind rejects this crap. Pretty much only reason I watch it is when I'm in that "Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do" mood.

God, those shows were horrible. One of them fucking said that aliens made centaurs/chimaeras/hydras/etc. through genetic experimentation so they could be used on other planets, AND NOBODY THEY INTERVIEWED REFUTED IT.
I used to love that channel, too.

Obviously, when discusing mythology, Joseph Campbell & Metaphorical Language never crossed these bozo's mind.
I'm not against ancient alien visitors, per se, I do, however find it insulting when someone says that humanity's great advances was do to weirdos from outer space. As screwy as humans can be, we're not stupid.
And if weirdos from space inspired humanity...who inspired the weirdos from space...and who inspired the weirdos that inspired the weirdos from space?
Beings evolve & think up stuff on their own....PERIOD!

Y'know, I genuinely believe that there's a conspiracy to make folks idiots. This is why intelligence, variety, creativity is abhored by the bigwigs. Money & ratings isn't a good enough excuse.
This is why only trashy, Neo-Gangsta rap is promoted while intelligent rap is ignored.
This is why Celebrities are hyped to death.
This is why Cable Stations veer from their niche.
This is why Un-Reality Shows are big.
Most of these stations are owned by 2-3 conglomorates, which are run by slimeballs like Rupert Murdoch, who has an interest in dumbing down people & making them degenerates.
The Nielsen Rating System consists of only a few hundred households that are hand-picked by by the Big Shots.....most of them are likely losers, hood-rats, trailer trash & regressives.
The Music Industry & Hollywood is probably under the same mindset as the Conglomorate of TV Tyrant Moguls of Doom.
Smart people should get all of their media from The Web, DVDs, Torrents, and stuff like TiVo & similar.
Just BOYCOTT THE MAINSTREAM!

If you can get your entertainment online, that's great - but I've always disapproved of pirating. For example, if there is an obscure art film released by an independent studio, and you really want to see more of it, you should buy it legitimately instead of pirating it. By pirating it, you are depriving that studio of the money and encouragement it needs to make that kind of film. But when a studio churns out the same old crap, they're guaranteed to make more money off of films that never break any boundaries because they are simply appealing to the largest number of people possible. Piracy doesn't dent big studios, it hampers the little ones.

You know how they say True Art is Foreign, SpukiKitty? I'm beginning to think they may be right. Programs made outside America are infinitely-more entertaining and educational than American ones.

Not all of them. It's a mixed bag. Remember: The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, King of the Hill, and all that other great crap are American shows.

Piracy doesn't dent big studios, it hampers the little ones. I have a question about this. What if the studio no longer exists? What if nowhere is actually producing copies that can be legitimately bought (whether or not the studio is still around)? What if the producers destroyed the original and wish all copies to be destroyed (such as with the Star Wars Holiday Special, or similarly Nosferatu)? Also, what if the media is from another country and the only stores online are those you cannot navigate because you can't read them, they block access from your country, or simply won't ship to your country? What if the media is from said country, but isn't available to be bought online at all? Are you suggesting the person take time off of work (not a viable option for far too many people), buy airline tickets (which can get quite pricey), and pay for hotel stays simply to buy the media that the people who made it will only get a small fraction of the cost there-of because the record company in charge of producing the purchasable product takes most of the profit?

I've yet to pirate a video game (or a TV show) unless there's absolutely no other possible way of getting ahold of it. A lot of Japanese anime, for example, with uncut episodes and no crappy dubbing (I can live with subtitles, yes, and prefer to watch it as such, actually) to get in the way and make my ears bleed.
That's all I'm going to say before this probably devolves into another pro/anti-piracy thread.

You know I've always wanted to watch the Star Wars Holiday Special, even as a huge Star Wars geek I've never had to courage to watch it. I have to put it on my to do list.

The only games I pirate nowadays are previous generation handheld console games. They're out of production so the only way I can get then legit is second hand, and in that case the only person I'm supporting is some guy who no longer wants his/her copy of the game. Since the developer won't see a cent either way, I see major ethical qualm with pirating.
