And not in a flattering way. moms.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/27/9744840-controversy-grows-over-pro-spanking-book-after-abuse-deathsAccording to the article, three children, in three different locales, have turned up dead recently, and the only thing they had in common were that copies of the Pearls' book were found in them, and that the parents were implementing things from that text. It angers me that it took three deaths for this book to finally get that attention. I'm also concerned that the facts may be ill-conceived, if what I'm seeing on the comments is any indicator. Let the Pearls take their lumps on their own merits rather than through deception. That's how justice works.

The comments are debating the specifics of what the book says, as well as biblical justification for abusing your kids. This in no way changes the fact that the Pearls' book (and the bible) was used as a guide in all three murders.

At the time of writing this, 2232 people (40% of 5580 people) do not think that the methods advocated by the Pearls go too far.

.....THREE KIDS DIED BECAUSE OF THESE IDIOTS AND YOU THINK THEY DON'T GO TOO FAR!? Ironbite-time to crack the world in half. Well, obviously those people were just reading the book wrong. These people were beating their children in anger and not love. Seriously, people actually believe that.

According to the article, three children, in three different locales, have turned up dead recently, and the only thing they had in common were that copies of the Pearls' book were found in them, and that the parents were implementing things from that text. ...in the houses, right? And not the kids themselves? Please tell me you just accidentally a word and that it's not what I'm thinking. Poor kids...I'm glad that the Pearls are getting more attention (I can distinctly remember being astonished that there weren't many quotes by them on the mainpage and submitting some of my own from their newsletter) but how many kids have to die before these negligent twits are, I dunno, PUNISHED in some manner for their idiocy and hate? From daleslady48: ...holy hell, lady. I don't like kids, but that's why I don't want to become a mother; you don't like kids, so...you...have them? Wha?

This makes me so angry. People like this can adopt kids and then beat them to death, and that's scriptural, but heaven forbid Janey has two moms or two dads! I really don't understand other Christians sometimes. The Bible was written for a different society. A lot of it isn't applicable to us today, and of what is, a lot of that is metaphorical.

"The book warns against striking with bare hands, favoring plastic spoons and thin branches, known as switches." Yeah, that's MORE likely to harm a child, not less. If you hit someone too hard with your hands, it hurts YOU too. If you're using another object, you can't judge how badly you're hurting the child as easily. Bruises take time to appear. And the rod mentioned in the Bible? Shepherds never hit sheep with their rods! The rod was used to provide gentle guidance. I doubt that the author of Proverbs had hitting children in mind when he wrote that "spare the rod, spoil the child" verse. There's a petition to have the book removed from Amazon: www.change.org/petitions/jeff-bezos-amazon-ceo-refuse-to-carry-books-which-advocate-the-physical-abuse-of-children

If you have to describe the people who oppose you as "do-gooders", you've sorta admitted you're a villain, just sayin'. Also DIAF. May the Pearls get everything they deserve.

Hate the Pearls, despise their philosophy, but, you know freedom of speech and all... Even freedom of speech has its limits. Incitement to violence and abuse is one of them.

Spoken by someone who is outwitted by a five-year-old and is unable to come up with a solution other than violence to maintain dominance and control.
Here's a tip: the problem with violence is that eventually a lot of them figure out that they are bigger than you or that it doesn't hurt enough to give a shit. At that point you've got fuck-all for options because you didn't bother to learn how to be a parent, you only learned how to be an authoritarian.

The only thing spanking fully teaches is "might makes right".
