Even the Puritans disagreed on separation of church and state. Theocracy might have been the goal in Plymouth, but down the road in Providence, there was just the opposite opinion. Which is ironic, considering the name.

Oh come on, it's true. Everyone knows he did that, standing on what would become ground zero. He famously did so, after beating the Muslims who ran England, and while eating a meal consisting of Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and deep-fried Snickers. Afterwards, he executed the first openly gay Captain in the military, which was the policy until Clinton wussified it. He did so before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the first World Series, between the Massachusetts Puritans and the New Amsterdam Angels. Everyone knows this stuff. Don't forget the part about how he ordered his men to dip their bayonets in pig blood before they whupped them towelheads. Na, that was the Phillipines around 1900

The vikings would like to have words with those people then. Wait...are you saying the Vikings are the ones people claim got here before the Natives, or that the Vikings would bitchslap the people who say Caucasians came to NA first because it's obviously untrue?

*Face palm* Regarding the original topic: The US as we know it was founded by, in fact, Christians. However, the natives prior were not Christians, so therefore the US is not a "Christian Nation" at the true start of inhabitants being here. People tend to forget that. Not to mention, the christian thing is to shun, alienate, and run out of town. Which is why Jesus only poke with thsoe who were already Christian.... I experienced the whole Christian shunning, alienation, and and running out of town first hand! They didn't want their daughters catching the evil demon spirit I had that manifested itself in the form of depression. *sigh*

Actually, Leiv Eiriksson was a Christian when he reached North America. Not a true Christian though, he was a catholic, baptized in Norway the previous year.

They didn't want their daughters catching the evil demon spirit I had that manifested itself in the form of depression. *sigh* You were actually run out of town? For fear that your depression was CONTAGIOUS VIA DEMON? Seriously? What the fuck!? No, but I was almost kicked out of my high school by these pushy Fundie mothers. They all would talk to our Dean of Students about how horrible I was, that I was a bad influence, and that I did drugs. None of which were true, by the way (I didn't start the drugs until college tyvm). All of this because they were afraid their daughters would catch my demon depression. One of the mothers informed me later that was the reason over the phone. Anyways, they were gossiping about me to the dean WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A SUICIDE ATTEMPT. When I needed "Christian love and compassion" the most, what I actually got was an education the true definition. I lost all my friends, and now I was facing expulsion. My mother had to go plead my case to my principle and Dean of students that it was those asshole mothers that had the problem, not me. They were apparently really close to booting me until she brought up that I was a 4.0 student, and all my "friends" were flunking out of all their classes. They then bent over backwards for me. I had even got into a fight with those girls at school, which was more verbal than physical. I tripped one of them when they were walking away. I was going to break her leg (I could punt a soccer ball all the way down a regulation field, so it was possible), but at the last second decided that was a bad choice. So I tripped her. My school's punishment? I had to donate an oil painting to a the counseling clinic I visited. The clinic gave it back to me six months later in a 150 dollar frame. It's been on my mom's wall ever since as a sort of trophy over those fuckwads. It was the single most traumatizing and life changing thing I've ever been through. I'm fine now, but if I see any of those assholes again... it won't be pretty.

That's terrible. I don't know whether to wish you never see them again, or to wish you meet them all again, several times, just so they can get the fucking up they rightfully deserve.

Well I did find out that the most vocal of all the mothers' daughter got preggers right after graduation. The fundie mother is racist (surprise!) and her daughter was knocked up by a black guy. That put a spring in my step for a long time. I'd still like to kick her fat ass, though.
