It seems like every day FSTDT gets a smattering of quotes from our friends over at Rapture Ready. Each one typically contains lunacy related to topics of the day but there is one common theme associated with all of them: The idea that the Rapture is always right around the corner. I suppose it's been like this since at least the days of Morgan Edwards and John Nelson Darby however as of the last thirty years it's gotten to addiction status with some of these people. I've witnessed addictions of many types (from gambling to heroin) and I can see the distinct parallels with the idea that there is no need to plan for anything because the Rapture is always right around the corner. Replace chasing the dragon with chasing the Savior and you get the idea. I know that there are many noted psychologists who have also illustrated the addiction to religion and the social damage it can cause. Sadly, you can predict the personality traits of most of the people over at RR and I would venture a guess that they are all lacking some fairly major components. It's just sad.

...any day now...
I actually kinda pity them. Always waiting for something, but never actually attaining it.
O wait, that would involve the destruction the entire human race. Fuck what I said about pity, they're just loons.

I pity them A LOT. I mean, I also feel disgusted that they're HAPPY to think of the earth being destroyed, and content enough that 99% of the human race is going to be in unspeakable torture for eternity while they have a boring vacation for eternity. But still, the pity is great. Seeing people that hate or are frightened by everything in the world, and never do anything to make themselves happy, make others happy, or make the world a better place overall or for the next generation makes me very sad. The sad and the angry battle it out.

Not just that, but they'll fight tooth and nail against all of those things.

[shaking, sweating, and twitching] Rev. Mudflappus, I just need a bible verse. I'll pray tomorrow, I swear. I just need one more verse, man. Look, tomorrow I'll pray twice. I swear. Just front me your cheapest throwaway verse. Just one quotation, man. Help a guy out. Something to get me through today. [/shaking, sweating, and twitching]

I find their assorted manias extremely irritating and dispiriting at times. But that seems like a small price to pay when I consider their entertainment value.

Nay, why do you think that the religious right fully supports Israel and wars in the middle east? It's not because they sincerely believe that Israel has a right to exist, or because they think Israelis are stand-up people, it's because they want Israel to start the war that will lead to Armageddon. Many of them don't believe that Israel should be restrained in any way, not even when they build settlements that are in violation of their own laws and treaties with the Palestinians, when they build worthless walls or when the bomb the shit out of towns and villages filled with civilians. Most of the religious right sees the Palestinians (and all other Arabs) as the enemy that just needs to "go away". They are the ones who lobby for full support of Israel no matter what and it is they who believe that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were holy wars. The religious right's agenda is the all-out destruction of the human race and it is an agenda which they push hard. Peoples and nations are merely pawns to them in the big chess game that leads to Armageddon and their precious Rapture. They are not cowards, as most have spent at least some time and money lobbying their lawmakers and sending in money to support policies and ministries that further their agenda. I pity that their lives are so obsessed with such an unhealthy pre-occupation but I will never be thankful that they are "too cowardly to do anything themselves". The religious right has a very powerful war machine that they worship and it is dangerous.

And when Jesus does, I'll make sure to have an umbrella. /badjoke What's white and falls from the sky? The Coming of the Lord. Imaginary exalts for the both of you. Also, Jesus should see a specialist if he's having that much trouble.
