Just wanted to share a little burst of awkwardness from my day:
So I went down to the CVS today, and while I'm standing at the counter paying for my stuff, the (female) cashier goes, "Can I ask you something?"...silly me, thinking this is one of those 'where'd you get that scarf' kind of moments, I say "Sure..."
Cashier: Did you know that the second coming of Christ is going to be from the East? Me: *blink* *eyes widen* Cashier: And that he will have a new name? Me: Uh...*blink* *blink*
I'm kicking myself for not responding with something witty like, "Did you know the Bible is a badly-written fairy tale? You should get out into the wide world, sweetie." But I basically employed the smile, nod, and back away technique, making a hasty exit...with a "uhh...no, but thanks, ok bye...", what can I say, it was totally unexpected, I was flabbergasted, lol.
Seriously, don't these things usually start with a "Do you know that Jesus loves you?"...I didn't even get a decent hellfire & brimstone, this girl went straight for the end of the world...and WTF was that about a new name?
Anyways, I hope this gives someone a chuckle...

Are you in a particularly religious area of the country (whatever country it is)?

I'd have responded, "You're kidding! My Arab lover (insert name here) is Jesus?"
If you can't dissuade them with reason, just make their heads spin by outdoing them in ridiculousness.

"If you can't dazzle em with dexterity, baffle em with bullshit"
(an old friend's advice for picking up women...also applies to picking up men)

Are you in a particularly religious area of the country (whatever country it is)? lol, no, and that's partly why I was so baffled...I'm in the Washington DC area, we're mostly IT and Govt. Security development workers here, and while we have our share of religious people, they're not usually quite so forthcoming, the nuts usually stay well out in the boonies...hours away...

I've had some crazies talk to me about Gawd a few times in DC, but nothing this awesome. I would have said, 'No...your kidding...THIS CANT BE HAPPENING!!" and run, screaming from the store without paying for my item. LoL

Or just replied with:
"wait a minute! Obama was born in Kenya, that's east, right?" and then the hilarity ensues....

DC really? I live in Georgia, I totally expect that here and don't give it a second thought. But I really hate it when they catch me off guard and I don't have a good come back. Of course I have to be careful because I still live in the same town I grew up and I don't want some busybody running to my elderly parents upsetting them with something I might say in public. But I really like the idea of "Obama came from the east". The would be great to use sometime.

Where I'm from (Chicago suburbs), there is no such thing as CVS. We have Walgreen's instead. I had no idea what a CVS was until a month or two ago, when I moved to college. [/random tangent]

[/random tangent] CVS is slowly making inroads. I know there has been one at Elston and Western for quite a few years (in the city proper), and now there are 3 near my house in the western burbs
