That's all very fascinating, though I doubt it would be that simple. Now this article presents a more interesting, hypothetical scenario of a global nuclear war: www.johnstonsarchive.net/nuclear/nuclearwar1.htmlThe death toll reaches several billion, which isn't surprising.

That actually sounds like a great backstory for a post-apocalyptic game... Lots of nice explanation and whatnot.

So wait, why would we want to do this? Are we trying to become comic book supervillians? Are we trying to one up Hitler? Because I really can't see any rational motive for destroying the rest of the world.

He also doesn't seem to notice that if we did take our troops out of the military bases in those countries, I'm sure that people would notice and get suspicious. Why the hell else would every single person abandon a perfectly good base?

There have been more insane Yahoo Answers questions. Yeah, this was pretty good, but it really sounded more like some bored guy's random hypothetical than anything else. There's definitely crazier out there. Here's a nice selection.

I'd actually support nuking the french if we could find a way to detach france from europe and shift it out into the atlantic a ways.
Preferably so the resulting fallout cloud heads west rather than east
