Nice to see Sunn O))) mentioned.
I primarily listen to Black Metal, Death/Doom and Funeral doom. But listen to a wide variety of metal, particularly anything with a progressive flair.
As for Metallica, I like everything from Ride the Lightning through S&M. Kill 'Em All just isn't to my taste and everything after S&M is abysmal.

Speaking of metal, I now have a playlist that contains all the metal on my computer. So far, it weighs in at 28h 4m 40s. Yeah, almost 30 hours of metal. My collection is in need of expansion. Just find 1 or 2 Sunn O))) albums. Better yet, the Sunn O)))/Boris collaboration Altar. Disclaimer: The "metal" I listen to is decidedly much slower and melodic. I second this recommendation. "The Sinking Belle (Blue Sheep)" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

I would own Altar on vinyl. But I just couldn't justify £100 for it, even if it is a triple vinyl.

I listen to mostly the older stuff. Iron Maiden, Dio, early Metallica, that sort of thing. In terms of new metal, I tend to focus entirely on two European groups with hot lead singers: Nightwish and Lacuna Coil. Also, XM Octane has stopped playing Creed/Nickelback when I tune to it. Now it's up to HIM, Korn, and Slipknot. At this rate, I should get something listenable in another week.

I've recently been experimenting with a lot of black/folk metal bands I found out about. These three in particular though have really peaked my interest:

I know of Kroda, although I don't own anything by them. And Wolfchant seem to warrant a further listen (whenever my budget increases from the current 5 albums a year; damned university fees). Thanks.
Not really liking the Crimfall at all, though.
Do you know of Kathaarsys? Brilliant Progressive Black/Folk:

Did somebody mention death/doom? Autopsy
Or maybe more towards the doomy end of the scale? Thorr's Hammer

Definitely the more doomy stuff. Thorr's Hammer are awesome. A shame that they split up after Dommedagsnatt. Gammelsæter is a monster on the vocals, too.
Mourning Beloveth are by far my favourite Death/Doom band:

More full on symphonic black then black/folk, but still awesome none the less. They're easily one of the best symphonic black metal bands I've come across.

(and yes, that does mean I do like some glam metal... Does that make me gay or something?). Who couldn't love this?? Phew, I'm not the only one. I really don't listen to a whole lot of metal. What metal I do listen to consists of Rammstein, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and since sludge metal counts The Melvins.

25 years? Nine, Ravynous, nine years. Metallica never made any music after 1991. What about Death Magnetic? Death Magnetic sucks. Not St. Anger sucks, but still sucks.

Death Magnetic sucks. Not St. Anger sucks, but still sucks. I agree completely. Personally I blame the mixer. Nothing Metallica can do will allow them to write another Master of Puppets, but a 10-year old could do a better mixing job than the idiot who did Death Magnetic. To all future producers/mixers, turning everything up does not a good song make. Even if that song is metal.

Hey now, don't be a bunch of snobs, you guys! You will like Metallica, or GTFO! </sarcasm>
Personally, I think that nine years of good material still counts for something, but I have to keep up appearances, you know.
