and it's not working.
Now, I know what the problem is. I have Windows Vista and the game (Sonic and Knuckles) is for Windows 95. When I try to install it I get this mesage:
Cannot run on Windows NT 5.1 (Build: 2600)
So, is there anyway I can bypass this and install the game anyway? Or am I just SOL?

Try setting the installer to Win95 compatibility mode. I'm not 100% sure how to do that under Vista, though.

I hate that... My new computer doesn't run old games either, and I don't get it. Now, an old computer not running new games makes sense, but this doesn't. I mean, the Wii plays GCN games and all, for example.
=( I miss playing SimAnt.

The problem is one of computing architecture. Things changed pretty significantly from the DOS era to the Win3x era to the Win NT series (including XP and Vista). Also, you can try DosBox for SimAnt.

DOS had the best games. I used to play Quest for Glory like it was my job.
So, if I set the installer to the compatibility mode, will my computer screw up when I'm trying to install newer things?

No, compatibility mode is file-specific. It'll only affect that particular installer. You may also need to copy the files from the CD to your hard drive first, if they're on a CD. Again, I recommend DOSBox for old DOS games. It's awesome.

I haven't tried it, but can you install windows 95 or 98 on a virtual machine?
Just an idea

If it's the version I'm thinking of, you just need to copy the "GAME" directory from the CD onto your hard disk and execute "RUNSONIC.EXE".

Get a Mac.
Seriously, though.... not sure how to do what you're doing with Vista. Mostly I'm wondering why you're doing anything with Vista, but I'd recommend trying to install a partial partition that allows you to boot into a more DOS-friendly version of windows when you feel like it so you can run games like that. It's what I had to do with some REALLY old games I wanted to play a while back.

Click Start, then click Computer. Locate the CD/DVD drive you've inserted the disk into, right-click on it and click Open. You should hopefully see a folder called GAME. If you do, just drag and drop it onto your desktop. Then double-click the folder on your desktop, and drag and drop RUNSONIC.EXE (might appear as just RUNSONIC) to your Start Menu. Bam, you've got a shortcut to it in your Start Menu. That's actually quite funny when you consider Intel-based Macs don't run anything designed for the Classic MacOS environment.

And a big thanks to everyone who tried to help me.

Hell, the KingsQuest bundle a couple years back not only endorsed such emulators, it came bundled with one!

Are you kidding? Give us any game with dancing, karaoke, or cute fuzzy things, and we'll do whatever you want. ;P
