Christ, these people become vultures even when the person isn't dead & it's someone they mostly support. As much as I disagree with Beck's statements, I certainly don't wish any harm on him. I hope that he's able to get treatment, and that things don't get too bad. Losing your sight would be terrible...

You don't even know what atheism is, do you? I doubt it, I just got done a couple hours ago trying to explain it to my parents (pretty sure they would join RR if they knew it existed). Boy, was that a wasted thirty minutes. I kinda wanna hear about this exchange. The vulturing is kind of what led to my banning. I was in one of the FSTDT topics & one of the mods started going on about WinAce probably being in Hell & woe is anyone who didn't heed the warnings & blahblahblah. I didn't actually break any rules (somehow, those rules are ridiculous), but I guess they didn't take kindly to my telling him not to act like such a vulture because it's rude.

I am amazed that anyone could not know what atheism is. I can understand someone might be deliberately obtuse, but some people just go too far.
I don't have any problem with my own baptism, it means nothing to me, I can't remember it, and like someone said earlier, it doesn't leave any lasting mark, but it is a fun symbol, and I might do it if anyone was running a similar event here.
About the MCC: their clothes are pretty fabulous, and the average raptard would probably get the wrong idea if they saw someone wearing an MCC blazer, tie and cap.. (I assume that was actually a reference to a church with those initials, but then again, calling something "not cricket" is the ultimate condemnation of bad behaviour to some people.)

Someone over there has a huge problem accepting, that their daughter is gay and has someone she loves and who loves her back as she is... rr-bb.com/showthread.php?143234-Need-help-answering-question-for-gay-daughterSome of their responses almost make me throw up, but after I remembered that it's RR we are talking about I managed to keep my lunch inside. Especially their attitude toward the OPs daughters girlfriend *insert rr's throw-up-smilie here*.

Pretty sure it's RR that calls it a lifestyle. Or a deathstyle, because that's apparently clever or something.
How DARE people get offended when you call someone they love an abomination.
A: I'm sure that'll work so much better. B: There's RR's "compassion is like psychological warfare" mindset again.

I hate the phrase "gay lifestyle". It comes across as so condescending, given that it's basically a sneaky way of saying "this isn't an orientation, this is a choice" which, in turn, translates into "I know your thoughts, feelings and sexual desires better than you do".
The girlfriend's message was actually pretty reasonable. I don't think I could have shown that much restraint if I were in her place. For reference:
It's clear that she's upset, but she didn't resort to the use of insults, nor did she say that the mother doesn't love the daughter. Asking for acceptance is hardly a crime. Still, fundies don't react too well when they get called out on their bullshit, regardless of whether or not they deserved it.
And then there are these suggestions:
^^ Sad thing is, this one comes close to admitting that people can be born gay and that no one but the individual can really know their own thoughts and feelings, yet the poster still thinks that it's evil and sinful. They're basically saying that this girl was born bad.
More shining examples of condescending fundie bullshit.

I doubt it, I just got done a couple hours ago trying to explain it to my parents (pretty sure they would join RR if they knew it existed). Boy, was that a wasted thirty minutes. I kinda wanna hear about this exchange. It was pretty basic, actually. They got their typical little emails about how the faith is under attack and all that good stuff, along with a single one about how atheists are hypocrits because they have faith in stuff. This is the one that sparked it. So they call me in, trying to convert me to their ideology, and have me read it. I get about half way into reading it and stop, having to correct everything wrong (read: everything I just read). I point out that atheists just don't believe in gods. They try to argue using what I just read. I throw back out the exact meaning of atheism by spelling it out, "A" meaning "no" and "theist" meaning "god". They completely ignore that and argue the same stuff. It didn't get any better after that, so yeah.

You would get upset too if someone insulted your spouse. Gays and lesbians can actually love each other. I know, that's hard for you wrap around your tiny little brain, but it's true. The bible may be against gay marriage, but it's also against divorce (with adultery being the only exception) and remarriage. Funny how none of you seem so upset when someone gets a divorce.

Funny how none of you seem so upset when someone gets a divorce. That's exactly why the whole anti-marriage thing pisses me off. The only reason they are against it is because they say it is contrary to the institution of marriage as defined in the bible. But there are stats out there of Christian divorces. I am not going to look them up, mostly because I don't care that much about it, but it's a lot. @jebusfire, I saw your new sig a few days ago. Love Daria!

Shit, they're lucky they have a halfway rational person to deal with. If it were me, the 5-0 would have to pry me off them with crowbars because I'd have them locked in a Killer Bear Hug screaming "FEEEEELLL THEEEE LOOVVVEEE OOOFF JEEEESSSUUUSSS, MOTHERFUCKER!"
