Didn't they used to execute Confucianists for practicing a religion? Why are they cool with him now? Same reason why they're (sorta-ish) cool(er) with Christianity (in certain forms), and why they're cool with trading with the Great Satan. What you can't crush (figuratively or literally), you co-opt - one of the lessons the Soviet Union never learnt from capitalism, but that the Chinese government in its modern form seems to very much understand. |

Pffffft. You don't set up a prize and give it to the former Taiwan president without even whispering a word to the domestic media. And get your stereotypes straight. We Chinese are supposed to be greedy and corrupt. You're confusing us with North Koreans. I thought you guys were supposed to be inscrutable and backward! Aw, man, now I'm all turned around on the baseless heuristic judgments I'm supposed to make about other races. Just blame it on not being able to read their moon language, and say they all look the same. |

The more the Chinese government bitches about the prize the more I am convinced that the Nobel committee gave it to the right person.
