Back story: This asshole family used to be our neighbors. They were materialistic, lying, cheating, arrogant hypocrites, all five of them. They were also Mormon. Anyway, they had a dog and a cat, and they didn't take proper care of either of them. The dog came up to our house every now and then for company. After living nearby for a few years, the asshole family decided to move down the road into a bigger, better house. The dog still visited, though not as frequently.
Well, the dog showed up today. I felt bad for the poor guy and went outside to pet him for awhile. He's little, a strange mutt about the size of a lap dog. Curious, I felt his collar and discovered that it was way too tight. I had my boyfriend remove it and adjust it to the proper size, and I noticed a red flea collar around his neck beneath the first collar. It had been on him for years, and there were large white clumps of dried sweat coating the entire thing. We removed that and threw it away, then put his collar back on. It fit him well this time. I also went inside and gave him a can of food and fresh water. He ate half the food, drank plenty of water, and finally headed down my driveway to go back home. He seemed quite content after that.

It's sleeting and snowing heavily here, and certain birds here refuse to eat out of our feeders, eating off the ground instead. The poor things were hopping around on my deck looking for food, so I had to give them something. Anyway, the second good thing that happened today? I made birdies happy! The breed in these pictures is the junco.
