I used to live in the Barony of Angels (LA County), which has a pretty vibrant rapier fencing community. For several months, I fenced with them, but then I moved to the Barony of Dreiburgen (San Bernardino County), which has virtually no rapier fencing community. On top of that, it's a big barony, and the closest rapier practice happened only once a month (compared to once a week in Angels) and would have been just as long a drive as going back to Angels.
So, no fencing for me, for over a year. But...
As it happens, one of the few Dreiburgen rapier fencers hosted a rapier 101 class at his house today, inviting a champion from Calafia (San Diego County) to teach it, with the hope of stirring up more interest in rapier here. It's an easy drive to his house and if there's enough interest, he wants to start holding a weekly practice. Yay!

Minor royalty was at my university opening a new Marine Science building. This is in addition to the minor royalty studying geography at my university.

My cousin's/my family tree project is going really well. With the help of a very sharp 3rd cousin who has an ancestry.com account, we've managed to go back to my great-great-great-great grandparents (paternal, through both my great-great grandmother and great-great grandfather), find a few more distant cousins, find various siblings of distant ancestors and add details about DOBs and death dates. Our family tree now has around 230 names, including spouses. I can only manage how big it would get if I added my maternal relatives. I love this kind of stuff.

Went to a dog fair, and then a Vatican art exhibit, with my mother yesterday. It was her birthday.

My flatmate and I have been on a cooking spree this weekend. Yesterday we cooked a massive chocolate coffee cake, and then we did spicy haggis and chinese stir-fry vegetables with rice for dinner (this is actually a way better combination than you'd think). Then I cooked her a massive Full English Breakfast this morning and she's going to do a four course Chinese meal tonight. Win? I think win.

My family and I are finally able to root for the same team in the Super Bowl. This never happens.
