I'm curious. How many here celebrate valentines day?
Do you have someone to celebrate it with? Do you think its just some bullshit holiday as an excuse to show other people you're in a relationship and buy hearts and teddy bears and choclates and flowers?

You shouldn't need to celebrate with your significant other on a given day. On the other hand, it's kinda nice to have a reminder, and that's how I treat it. If I'll be doing anything special for St. Valentine's, it will likely not be done on the 14th, but a few days after.

No girlfriend, so not a holiday worth recognizing.

I both celebrate it and think of it as a hallmark holiday. It's just an excuse for me, really I actually called it "Happy Capitalism Day" to Rusty - he got a kick out of it.

Nothing. I've got no significant other or anyone else with whom I could exchange tacky shit for sex. Not to mention I simply don't care for this kind of thing anyway, it's just any other day to me.

I celebrated it today. I remember a thread on here about Valentine's Day last year where David D.G. made a really good point. Yes, there is the "Hallmark bullshit" view, but there's also the view that Valentine's Day is a good reminder, a good day for couples who are constantly caught in the hustle and bustle of life to take time to appreciate one another and spend some time together. Yes, yes, there's the whole "Well, they should be doing that every day!" argument, but this isn't a perfect world. It's hard to find time for the other person with all the other crap you've got to deal with in life, and it's hard to keep the other person in mind and truly realize what a difference (s)he makes in your life. That's how Valentine's Day should be treated, in my opinion.

This is the first VD I've been single for since Grade 11. I'm spending it drinking far too much wine, watching Stephen Fry in America, and reminding myself that it's better to be alone than date crazy bitches.
