To shamelessly pimp my good buddy's project, I present to you The Grace Jones.

Total fan of Combichrist, Ladytron, Skinny Puppy and to add to the list, love VNV Nation as well. The song Chrome changed my life. And also, not sure if they qualify, but AndOne is one of my top 5 bands of all time. They can be classified as both Electronic Body Music and Synthpop, though. Exalt for mentioning And One and Synthpop!

Electronic music has a reputation for being "lame" and "for the gays", but I've been an avid fan of it for years. The trick to enjoying this genre is finding original, interesting artists who don't suck 20 asses. I've been listening to electronic music since 1981 when my life was changed forever by hearing Depeche Mode for the first time. I'm really into melodic synthpop; catchy choruses, memorable synth lines and chord changes you feel in your guts... and in the corner of your eye. Most of the stuff you posted is completely unbearable to me; I don't consider most of those 'electronica' either. To me they're closer to hard rock and heavy metal, only with slightly less distorted guitars and more samplers. I used to like stuff like Nine Inch Nails (the first album is still great, actually), Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM etc. but I've mellowed out considerably at my old age. I get no joy from walls of mostly incoherent noise, 150+ bpm tempo and vocalists who have to hide their lack of talent under a rack of FX units. Here's a quick list of artists I've been listening to lately: Parralox, Northern Kind, Marsheaux, Kleerup, Röyksopp, Little Boots, The Ultrasonics, Emmon, Foretaste, Pet Shop Boys, Mechanical Cabaret, IAMX, Ladyhawke, Carl Finlow, Anthony Rother, Empire State Human, Million Dollar Lips, Vision Talk. Everyone needs to hear Röyksopp's new single "The Girl and The Robot". It kisses your soul just so.

I like Graham March, aka Desimal, aka Epidose. Well, I think he was talented anyway, and a lot of his stuff got me into electronica music. I think he could have done some great things had he lived a bit longer.

Whilst this isn't generic "electronica" it is largely techno. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ulW_p8A4_t8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ulW_p8A4_t8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Oh fek! How do I put Youtube videos here? Ignore the text-clump then, just go here www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulW_p8A4_t8&feature=relatedThe artist is Renard and the song is NAMx, a part of his Trauma album. My favorite part is near the end with the Thomas the Tank theme.

Here's an odd selection electronic sounds from some non-electronic artists: Rob Zombie - Perversion 99: love the dark ambient sound of this one, its a shame that its such a short song. Mushroomhead - Bwomp: definitely not an electronica band, but they have an outstanding electronic remix of Bwomp. It has a kind of breathless intensity which surpasses most mainstream electronic artists. Skip immediately to 5:16 to enjoy this track. Jem - Amazing Life: I fucking love Jem, like omg. She's not an electronica artist, but she has a fondness for drum machines with a distinctly trip-hop sound: Mink - Moonburn: this song is so borderline that I have a hard time even classifying it as electronica, but it has an interesting down-tempo beat which barely skirts the border of trip-hop. And just for fun: Ladytron - CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blac k, a reference to the subtractive color model, another ambient sound and another fantastic song from the Witching Hour album: Front Line Assembly - Corruption: I like to save electronica in the 120+ bpm range for special occasions, but this is one seems to carry the listener through alternating high and low intensities for its entire duration. I have a hard to listening to this one in the car because of my involuntary tendency to press down harder on the gas when it switches to high-intensity mode. If you can't already tell from my OP, I'm a huge fan of Metropolis records and the electro-industrial genre. Occasionally, I've ventured into the indie genre, and I find that Aquarious records consistently has an interesting selection of underground indie artists, see the Aquarious Records electronica page for lots of free clips. Cibo Matto - Sugar Water: this is the only Cibo Matto song people can name, and only because they saw it on that one episode of Buffy, but its a fun listen. I'm not a huge Cibo Matto fan, most of their stuff is just weird, but I do like this song and their experimental sound.

Have you heard his other, similar track, "Sinners, Inc."? I like that one a lot more than "Perversion 99" (which I do like anyway).

Ladytron are pretty cool, what with all their vintage synths. I think my favourite track off Witching Hour is 'Soft Power' I haven't bought Velocifero yet though. Huge fucking Ladytron fan here. Fun fact, Mira Aroyo, one of the lead singers is ridiculously smart: she has a PhD in generics from Oxford University, fluent in her native Bulgarian and English, and is way more beautiful than 7 Natalie Portmans combined. Incidentally, Helen Marnie in totally stylish mini skirt cannot be underestimated. You can find a full version of Velocifero on Last.fm. I personally rank Witching Hour as the superior of the two, but still its fantastic album. Top 3 picks from the album are songs are: #1: Black Cat: seriously, who doesn't fucking love Mira? Powerful song, it really took me by surprise the first time I'd heard it: #11: Deep Blue: let me say it again: who doesn't fucking love Mira? I'm Probably an odd choice for a top 3, but I fell in love with it because the artists layer an indefinite number of very simple 4-bar beats to produce a very complex rhythm. Normally, I'm able to pick up on all of the individual layers of a song in just a few listens, but I had to play this one about 50 times to really take in everything, really amazing stuff: #4: Runaway: another powerful rhythm that just knocks you back the first time you hear it. For what its worth, there are only two songs on Velocifero which really miss the mark: Lovers: not all together a bad song, but is just has an ugly, disjoint rhythm the whole way through. It strays too far from Ladytron's synthpop sound that people expect and enjoy, I just can't get into it. Versus: this is probably one of the experimental songs that fans either love or hate. Now, I really love most everything by Ladytron, but seriously, what the hell? Number one problem with the song: don't let the guy ever sing again. Helen Marnie sounds beautiful and angelic as always, but the Daniel Hunt's strong Liverpool is either off-key or simply the wrong voice to pair with Marnie. Next, I'm used to Ladytron writing some occasionally eccentric lyrics, but lets get serious here: Finally, The vintage keyboard was totally the wrong choice for this song: it sounds like elevator music, and you can readily hear the keyboardist fat-finger the notes in the last 5 seconds of the song. Oops.

To tell you the truth, apart from the first 4 or 5 songs on Hellbilly Deluxe, Rob Zombie sucks hardcore and his music ridiculously overrated. Let's just say Mr Zombie shark jumping moment happened when he penned the chorus to Foxy Foxy without vomiting in despair and anger.
