Ok, so having some more experience in low point Warhammer 40k battles, I've got some thoughts on the armies I've played against. Tyranids: I've played against them twice and I HATE Tyranids. If they're not assaulting my Fire Warriors and wiping them out with a single Genestealer, they're generating more fucking Gaunts. This is AFTER I won both games against the faction I've played. Dark Eldar: I think they're not too bad against Tau if you have some railguns, either on a Hammerhead or Broadside due to the fact that they're going to have a few transports, even on low point games. That said, some lucky rolls won me the game I've played against Dark Eldar that wrecked all three transports he brought, even if I did lose all my Fire Warriors due to how fucking fast they are. Chaos Marines: The only game I've lost so far due to my complete inability to roll ANYTHING (8 shots, 1 hit, twice in a row for example), but I think I could have done a bit better if I tried to be more mobile. I still think I learned more from losing to Chaos Marines than I did from beating Tyranids and Dark Eldar. Tau: Tau versus Tau is.... weird. Every other army's strategy against me is CHARGE!!!, so its odd to fight an army that tries to do the same thing that I do. Fix'd because I forgot about one.

I am reminded of the time I used Necron to outshoot Tau. Granted, this was under 4th edition rules.

I often find losses tend to teach more than wins. Winning can trick you into thinking a poor strategy is effective because it happened to work out well thanks to good rolls or even poorer play on the opponent's part. But with a loss, you always manage to walk away with "what I tried there didn't work, and need to try and figure out why".
I think the best thing you can do, though, is to just play a lot, against as many different people as possible, trying out every wild idea you have. In low-stress situations such as just playing with friends, it's a great way to stumble across surprisingly effective moves that don't seem like they'd work on paper, and losing in hilarious ways is a lot more fun than winning the exact same way ten times in a row.

I picked up the Mythic Gamemaster Emulator, which is supposed to turn any game into a GM-less game. It's interesting, but I was expecting more charts. I guess I'll have to make my own for my Left 4 Dead TWERPS campaign that I'm working on.

I got my fiancee interested in a playing a game of TWERPS after I mentioned we could play a zombie campaign. After that, maybe I'll download the pirate one, but for now the zombies should be fun, especially after I get the maps in.

As an avid tabletop rpger, and a big fan of the movie and novelization, I admit that I am waiting for the release of the Buckaroo Banzai RPG. Spring 2012 cannot get here soon enough.

Two things:
Played Warhammer against an Ork player the other night. Got my ass handed to me by Nob Bikers and Dethkoptas. On turn 2. I think I hate Orks more than I hate Tyranids.
Bought a few Magic 2012 packs. First pack contained Jace, Memory Adept, second pack contained Frost Titan. Third pack didn't have a Mythic, but it had a foil and a good Rare. I am awesome.

My fiancee Really wants to play the zombie game now. Not only has she created her character before I finished my ideas for the game, she bought several maps from GameMastery for us to use.
The zombies will be inspired by Zombieland and Left 4 Dead (She asked for infected zombies over undead ones). I found some great charts to go with my Mythic GM simulator for creating NPC's and certain random events. I just need to find out what's wrong with my printer so I can print them.

Bumping this thread to say this:
I picked up the Space Wolves codex since I'm planning to build a Space Wolves army (mostly thanks to Tau models being damn near impossible to find) and I find that Rune Priests can take a power that can wipe anything except vehicles off the board in a 24" range. My god. That is awesome.

After posting the results of my lovecraft solo game on the yahoo boards, they want me to start a play-by-post or pbem game. I've never done either though, so I'm trying to find a way to do one in a chat session.

Hmm, looking through the Space Wolves codex has also made me wonder why I would want to take Blood Claws when Grey Hunters cost the same points.
On one hand, the Blood Claws doe have Berserk Charge, which gives them two attacks on a charge instead of one, but on the other hand, Headstrong might make them attack something you don't want them to. Not to mention that Grey Hunters have higher WS and BS and carry Bolters as well as Bolt Pistols and Chainswords. Basically, this means that Grey Hunters can run forward, shoot something with their Bolters and then just DARE someone to assault them, but Blood Claws are required to attempt to assault instead of shooting (even though most of the time, you're going to let them keep their Bolt Pistols and Chainswords) if in range.
