I'm guessing they used a standardized extract or pill, because potency does vary a lot. The biggest obstacle IMO is being a schedule I drug. The DEA is supposed to just be a politically neutral enforcement agency, but in actuality, they're extremely politicized and will try to keep substances in schedule I (no medical value), science be damned. You can see this in medical marijuana, where they refuse to accept/fund any study that might show medical benefits. I don't imagine psilicybin will be any different, and they'll force rewrites of any positive conclusions, call evidence "anecdotal", etc.

I like em too, but the way I described it was more along the lines of therapy type effects, and I may have overstated the chance of a bad trip (mainly because theraputic use implies psychological problems that might make someone more susceptible to a bad trip). For anyone curious to know what it's like without the hassle of having to actually take them, individual trips vary, so this is the best I can do: www.shroomery.org/6255/Trip-ReportsThe only "bad trip" for me was on ridiculously powerful ones (~3x normal) that launched me to level 5 (see link), and even then, maybe only 20% of it was "bad" and felt as if it was a necessary evil to confront problems I never realized I had. Lighter trips tend to be more fun, and heavier ones more introspective. If it wasn't for the legality issues, supporting bad people if you buy illegally, etc., I'd recommend anyone not fucked in the head research it and maybe give it a try.

I once knew a guy at a writer's camp who recommended shrooms. Actually, his speech was more like, "Now, if you ever go on drugs, never go on painkillers, because that shit is addicting as hell. Go on shrooms! They open your mind, make you all creative! And they're not addicting at all! Try them!"
