The girl scares me.
I think the biggest age gap I've ever been involved in is 5 years. Actually... no. *squints* damnmit I NEED A CHART!

I admit to squick here, mostly based on the fact that she's still a CHILD. Age of consent can go fuck itself, a sixteen year old (with few exceptions) is still very much a child. No, Cait. *shakes head sadly* No, she very much isn't. Contrary to popular opinion, I was no mere child when I was 16 years old, nor was my grandfather at that age, nor will my (currently hypothetical) grandchildren be merely children when they reach that age. Now, granted, a society would need some major overhauling in order for 16 year-olds of my grandchildren's generation to be even remotely able to live up to such expectations. *optomistic smile* In my opinion, though, it definitely can be done.

I admit it, I'm squicked. Mostly because I think age gaps over ten years are squicky in general, and what the hell are you doing you teenager thinking you know what love is at sixteen? But then, I'm a teenager. I'll probably think differently when I'm older.

A sixteen year old may be physically mature, and be aware of the world around them, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily emotionally mature enough to understand the consequences of the actions they may take, especially if they are being influenced/pressured by someone old enough to be a parent.

My emotional maturity hasn't changed since I was 16.
Actually, sometimes, I think it hasn't changed since I was 10, but that's irrelevant to this discussion ;D

I have the mental maturity of an 8-year-old. You hear that, Amaranth? You're a pedo!

I clicked. But didn't bother to put sounds on ._. And what I saw... I just don't know if I should laugh at her or weep for the sake of the human kind Is that what she's doing with her hair/legs/hands supposed to be "sexy" somehow or is she having some sort of seizures?

Creepy? Probably. Wrong? I'm not so sure about that. If everything's legit and the 16-year old knows what she's getting into, then there's no problems, as far as I can see. However, I most likely WON'T watch any porn these two might make and leak in two years. I'm not so sure any 16-year-old understands what they're getting into with marriage. I barely understood that I would have to do more chores if I lived alone, much less how much work it takes to pay the bills (granted, not a huge problem when you're marrying a movie star). The concept of a lifetime commitment is difficult to understand as a teen. Ok, horrible joke time: Anybody remember Hutchison's line from the Green Mile? "I didn't know the sponge was supposed to be wet!" Yeah. My mind went there.

I have to agree with the people who say a 16-year-old isn't a child. She doesn't know what love is? Probably not. But do most adults, since 1/2 of marriages end in divorce now?
