I'd take an extra $60 per month.

E: ^^ Love the new sig.
I have sleep issues too. My body clock runs longer than average, so if I go to bed at ten PM one night, I can't fall asleep until around 1am the next, and so on. Sleeping pills help a bit, but its a huge pain in the ass. I end up pulling an all-nighter at least once a week, since it's the only way I can keep my sleeping patterns in balance with the whole work & having a life thing.

I'm not attached to any specific time, but I'm definitely NOT a "morning" person. I can rotate my sleep schedule to whatever time works, but I don't function normally until a few hours after I've woken up. I generally wake up super early and spend a few hours with coffee before I have to actually do anything.

My paradoxical excitation helps with my sleeping problems because no sleep aid really helps. Seriously I just took a sleep aide and I'm practically bouncing off the walls. Give me caffeine and I get really lethargic (while also being hyperactive in my mind but not in movements)
I don't think I have Non-24-hour sleep or anything like that but my parents are wanting me to talk to my doctor about my sleep patterns. I usually don't sleep at 'normal' times which is why I'll be active in the IRC at odd times for a Yank.
It really gets frustrating especially knowing that while you aren't a 'special case' there are loads of people who don't understand. My dad can go to sleep in like 10 seconds (he claims his air force training causes his ability to fall asleep quickly). My mum gets to bed relatively quickly too. But me? I'm up at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 AM and going on into the afternoon. Around 3 I'm ready for sleep but then sometimes I'm up for 24+ hours.

I was up for 40 hours at one point last week. Not the longest I've gone without sleep, but I was starting to have some very noticeable symptoms of sleep deprivation -- seeing shit out of the corner of my eyes that wasn't there, thinking I heard the phone ring when it hadn't, getting a tad paranoid, etc.

No naps no nothing. After hour 49 I'm trying to find anything to make my ass go to sleep. Nothing works. I finally conked out today around noon and just woke up about half an hour ago. Yea, a whole four hours!

Yeah, my longest was somewhere in the neighbourhood of 72 hours. Don't know the exact length, since I wasn't exactly in any condition to be keeping track of it by the end.

I've been awake for more than 50 hours at a time on several occasions. The most interesting was when I stopped being able to interpret images properly unless I looked very carefully. So, what at first was an anthropomorphic dog pushing a large luggage cart or stroller was actually a student with a small wagon, for instance. That same time, I found that if I got stopped in the middle of what I was doing, my brain would just stop. Someone said "excuse me" next to the exit of the student union, I stood there for 4 minutes not doing or thinking anything. However, I was at peace with everything and one with the universe during that time as well.
If possible, I would like to work the night shift, I think it would be great.
As one of the side effect of my main medical condition, I've got really bad insomnia, plus what seems Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome as well. So, what little of my circadian rhythm exists wants me to be nocturnal as I perk up starting around twilight, but even being nocturnal I still can't get decent sleep without drugs. This has been going on since I was an infant, but I didn't start taking sleeping medications until recently. The result was that I slept around 4 hours a day as a baby.
My mom has been trying to get me on a sleep schedule ever since birth, but it's been useless, and my parents' fear of sleeping medications means that I very rarely got REM sleep for 22 years. Even now, I get nagged to try a sleep schedule and natural sleeping remedies instead of drugs. It's like my mom believes that when it comes to sleep, I'm simply not trying hard enough.

Holy shit, Zachski.
Thanks for posting this. NOW I know I have this. @_@
Unfortunately, I seem to be the type that just cannot do it, no matter what's done.
Edit:
Feels good to know that I have it... yet at the same time, it's also very depressing.

I've got this too. I've had it since I was little, and it got worse and worse until 2 years ago. Since then I've been a 6 AM-2PM sleeper, although I'm very luckily working 3rd shift at my job (11 PM-7 AM, although we're usually out by 5 or so).
My dad is one of those hardcore morning people, and spent years bugging the shit out of me to get up earlier. It never worked. Nothing he suggested helped, nothing my mom told me to do actually did anything, etc. Finding that Wikipedia article was like reading my own goddamn mind, 'cause a lot of the stuff like not falling asleep even if you go to bed early - wow, did my mom love that suggestion - sounded like it was just ripped out of my head.

Lol, yeah, I reacted the same way when I read the wikipedia article. I was like, "Holy shit, this explains things SO much better as to why I could never change my sleeping schedule. Soon as my parents visit me, I'M SHOWING THIS TO THEM!" XD
