I'm actually glad that Bachmann ran for president. All the stuff that came up about her, will be used against her in her congressional campaign.

Vene: I had a feeling you were just being the devil's advocate. I'm glad you brought up the argument of one person's actions affecting others, because it WILL come up when the time comes for Congress to debate the issue.

Let's put it this way. If the rate of burglary is 10% higher with marijuana legal than with it illegal*, then I have good cause for making marijuana illegal. If it increases the chances for somebody to do something destructive, then I do have an interest in your drug use. *Number pulled from my ass for the purposes of a hypothetical Not that I agree or disagree, but this argument will arise if and when the day comes for congress to debate its legalization. The argument of what one person does affecting others, is the reason for seat belt use being mandatory. The same argument is used to tell people not to drive drunk, or go to work drunk, and the same should be true for marijuana.

Marijuana may retard memory formation, but also enhances creativity. I often wonder how many great works of art, music, or literature came to be after the person smoked some doobage, and maybe downed some shrooms. A lot more than "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." How do you think groups like the Doobie Brothers, Greenday, and ZZ Top got their names?
I encourage anyone here who aspires to be a musician, artist, or writer, to at least try marijuana.

Maybe by one person's actions affecting other people, you meant like driving after drinking, or getting stoned.
It's also possible that any drugs, including alcohol or marijuana, can cause one person to negatively affect others, if abused. Don't abuse any drugs! Alcohol, and marijuana, need to be consumed responsibly.

I don't accept this. One person's actions affect other people, because of this I do have an interest in what you do to yourself. This seems like an argument to legalize marijuana, but keep other drugs illegal.

That explains why I remember stuff in the bathroom and then forget it as soon as I leave :V Actually that one is because you shit out the memory. No, I think that's why people read in the bathroom. I sometimes find a magazine or newspaper in there. If you find a Playboy, er...I read it for the articles!

Sometimes forgetting and letting go is just as important as remembering. Why PTSD is such a bitch.

However, I don't see a reason for it to be illegal. The only potentially logical argument is "gateway drug", which is a stupid slippery slope fallacy that is also used to deny gay people the right to marry. If there is a gateway drug, it's nicotine.

Recently I made some remarks about trying marijuana in a mental health thread. Although I have now retracted the idea of trying for myself, on the basis that my meds work, if it ain't broke don't fix it, cannabis still has uses in mental health, anxiety and PTSD. Everyone's favorite YouTube smartass, TheAmazingAtheist, points out that opposition to marijuana is a matter of taste or just following along with a particular crowd. He argues that all drugs should be legal. I say let's start by legalizing marijuana. If you don't like marijuana or people who smoke it, then don't buy it or smoke it, but let others smoke it if they wish. Also, we could legalize LSD and shrooms. If you don't like the fact that they make you dream while you are still awake, then don't use them, but also don't try to take them away from everyone else. Then there's Miley Cyrus calling herself a pothead: wonderwall.msn.com/music/miley-cyrus-calls-herself-a-stoner-and-a-pothead-1655018.story

Back in the 1980's, there was a move under Reagan to classify ketchup as a vegetable for school lunches.
