Mine is getting worse. I still resist it, but instead of adding u's to various words I'm starting to replace "z" with "s." Some sceptic folks treat British spelling as lightly as a grey-coloured aluminium can, ensuring their disuse. They plough on through this madness and draught cheques they can’t cash by calling it mouldy. They choke on “misplaced u’s” like faulty carburettor’s of low calibre which leave a flavour of naivety on their moustaches. There were tonnes of persnickety rumours at the centre of this, according to a cosy little programme seen by my mum, that British spelling would endevour to become the honourable way to write, that extra u’s, for example, would be the armour against the bogeyman of slang. Personally, I snigger at those who would blow a tyre over this phoney controversy, those at the theatre of humourous sabre-rattling furore over such neurone-moulting titbits, and from such rigourous behaviour from my neighbours.

Seriously, that's me in my prime back when I was posting for the NSUN. I just don't get the practice much anymore.

Indeed, that was brilliant. I applaud your writings.

I had no idea that something liket this was in the wind. I've been waiting and wondering for a couple of days what had happened. Then when I cottoned on, it looked like the site was gone forever... until I cliked on practically every link. I'm delighted to have found the Refugee site! I feel like I;ve been Raptured!

I feel like I;ve been Raptured! That's a funny analogy. Course, if we've been raptured, then Proboards must be Purgatory, where we all wait while our Lord Distind prepares His Glorious Kingdom of FSTDT Forums Heaven.

You were doing so well, but I'm afraid it's endeavour.

Extra u's always seemes kind of weird to me. I don't like the way the word looks. Same with s's and z's. Because I'm American, z's just look right to me.
This is probably going to make me sound like a complete and total idiot, but I didn't even realize 'sceptic' and 'skeptic' were the same word. I have never in my life seen it spelled with a 'c' before.

It goes both ways, though.
Any time I see "Pedophile" written, I find myself wondering "who are these feet-fuckers?"

My persistence in using australian spelling has been labelled as just one example of my anti americanism. But I have learnt how to affix "tard" to words to make witty epithets so I'm not a total lost cause.

I know at least one person who's cracked up at a program install when they found "English" and "English (UK)" listed as language options.
English is technically my second language in any case, so I'm not all that arsed, I just find American spelling looks "wrong" when I've typed it.

The depressing thing is that American English is a lot closer to the kind of grammar standardised english that I keep demanding. I mean the American pronounciation of aluminum, whilst sickening and painful to the ears is actually correct. Also since car is short for carriage, auto, short for automotor is correct. But come on, look at it color, or colour?
Oh, and that was pretty spectacular Redhunter, humourous and endevour aside.

Aye, but the rest of the world spelling and pronunciation "Aluminium" is right as well.
Nations separated by a common language, maybe?

I found this advert on the "is this an elaborate Poe or what" thread. It made me giggle. Because I have the mental age of a five year old.

From the "American spelling will send you to hell" dept. -
One of our fundie friends (David J. Stewart, maybe) said calling Jesus "savior" was part of a conspiracy by the devil to corrupt our Bibles and replace the godly seven letter "saviour" with Satan's six-letter version.
