Yep, the Catholic church has been caught out (again) doing bullshit to humanity... This is low, even for them. Notice though that this apparently started under Franco...so guess who'll get the blame once the church starts feeling the heat. If anyone can get the link to the actual documentary once it airs it'd be nice...I don't know just how reliable this Daily Mail outfit is. I do know that PZ Myers has picked up on this. Looks like it happened in Australia and Ireland also.

They're gonna need a lot more than luck to get out of this one.

Well, the PZ Myers article comments section has links to sites other than Daily Mail that have the same stuff. Though, the BBC article's figures are about 30,000 kids stolen, while DM reports round about 300,000. Either way...yeah. Fucked the fuck up.

How do you do this and convince yourself that you are doing God's work?

How do you do this and convince yourself that you are doing God's work? "We're ensuring that these babies get to go to heaven by placing them with devout couples!" "This evil, sinful harlot had sex before marriage; such a monstrous woman shouldn't be raising a child!" "We are God's chosen; therefore, we know better than the child's parents, or the heathen legal system." And it's just that easy. People can rationalize damn near anything.

Some in the comments are already blaming him. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why the practice continued for 14 years after his death.

It's stuff like this which is the reason that all religions need to die out. It's not all the religions that are at fault here, not even all christians or all catholics.

It's stuff like this which is the reason that all religions need to die out. It's not all the religions that are at fault here, not even all christians or all catholics. That's awesome, it's still the Catholic institution that justified this bullshit, & it's not like no other religion will do this.

what the hell? Just when I thought I'd seen every possible variety of religious fuckery, they come out with a new one.
I think I may have to go cry in a corner now.
