www.change.org/petitions/bully-beats-up-gay-student-on-video-tell-ohio-school-district-to-protect-lgbt-students-from-assaultA 15-year-old teenager was caught on video being severely beaten in his high school class room for being gay. The attack occurred at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was caught on camera as fellow class members watched one teen wait for the victim to enter the room, push him to the ground, and continually punch him in the face. The victim suffered broken teeth and a possible concussion. The perpetrator was suspended for just 3 days. Union-Scioto has no policy in place that specifically protects students from being bullied or attacked based on sexual orientation or gender identity. The Union-Scioto Local School District does have a policy that prohibits harassment based on sex, race, color, national origin, religion, disability, among others, but it does not specifically protect against harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Assault charges should be given.

Assault charges should be given. Yup. "No person shall recklessly cause serious physical harm to another or to another's unborn. Whoever violates this section is guilty of assault" Ohio Revised Code 2903.13(B) and (C)

...but it does not specifically protect against harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity. But if they did, it'll make the bullies be gay themselves. Or some crap like that.

Oh, come on. I'm sure 11 out of 10 of these losers are so deep in the closet, they've found Narnia.

Um... he was suspended for 3 days, how is that "nothing"?
What happened when police were called?

Lighty, its effectively nothing. Three days out of school for BEATING another student is bullshit, its a slap on the fucking wrist. What the fucker needs is god damned assault charges. You know, like he'd committed a crime?

Why do we even need special protection for race, religion, ethnicity and all that bullshit? Can't we just give the same level of protection to anyone who's beaten up for any reason other than self-defence? It'd make things so much simpler and loophole-free.

You know, like he'd committed a crime? What he said. In my mind 3 days suspension is nothing done at the very least legally. It's 'welp, so he beat another kid severely. Oh well...'

You do realize the criminal justice system doesn't work at the drop of a hat? Just because nothing has been done legally yet does not mean nothing will be done ever. (If this happened a while ago, I take back the above statement.)

Which is roughly the response to be expected, regardless of who it was unless say, something like this video shows up. Give this is a few days old by now I wouldn't be surprised to see some pretty impressive ass covering occur. I say this, having most certainly been there. And the one time it got caught on video I wasn't the one who was punished for it. Edit: Assault charges should be given. Yup. "No person shall recklessly cause serious physical harm to another or to another's unborn. Whoever violates this section is guilty of assault" Ohio Revised Code 2903.13(B) and (C) And color me amazed if that actually sticks, also, having been there on camera.

You know, like he'd committed a crime? I aree, but that's the police's issue, not the school's. Which is why I asked what happened when the police were called? I read a lot of these sorts of stories where people seems to get the shits at the school for not taking harder action, but they don't actually bother to call the police. Which seems sort of unfair to the school, to me.

So did the kid call the police? Did his parents? Maybe a 3 day suspension is the maximum punishment the school is able to give. You want the bully punished, its a police matter, surely?
