I wasn't sure where to put this thread. There is no News & Current Events room, and F&B seemed wrong for this.
Joe Paterno was fired after 46 years, and is seeking a criminal defense attorney. Who dropped the ball? Paterno says he informed his superiors of the offense, but was it enough? Sandusky retired in 1999, but was still allowed to visit the facilities. Since Sandusky wasn't on the payroll anymore, just going to superiors would not suffice.
Mr. Sandusky also faces sexual assault charges by the state of Texas. There was an incident that occurred after the 1999 Alamo Bowl.
The interim head coach, Mike McQueary, was a direct witness to a sexual assault, but just talked to daddy about it, then chatted with superiors, but really did nothing. He should be fired too. He was 28 years old at the time. COWARD!

Paterno is the de facto head of Penn State and he had every obligation to deal with. But he didn't. He just pushed it under the rug. Firing was a very appropriate course of action. (If only we could do the same with the Vatican). But now all those little whiny twits at Penn State are crying over the whole affair, while not giving a damn about the victims.

In my opinion, no, although there is some debate on what JoePa knew. Still, I cannot figure out why he dropped the ball. Why didn't he go to the police after he told university officials? Why was Sandusky still given access to the facilities? That's something I've been wondering. I'm not sure I would call him a coward, but I would love to know why did nothing at the time. Why didn't he go straight to the police (or to paraphrase The Young Turks, beat the crap of of Sandusky and THEN go to the police...)? Why did he just turn around and leave - and then call his father? Unlike JoePa, there is no question that he knew the details - he saw them!

Personally, I think I would have a very, very, very difficult time controlling my rage if I came across a man raping a 10 year old boy. And trust me, you do NOT want an 18 stone, pissed off, BAF vet Scotsman coming at you with the intent to pound you into cheese-flavored dog food. I'm not particularly proud of it, but I'm not sure there would be anything left to turn over to the police.

McQueary has been placed in administrative leave, indefinitely, and will not coach from the sideline against Nebraska today.

I'm surprised the Board of Trustees didn't get lynched by a rampaging mob after firing JoePa.

Edit: I don't see why F&B seemed wrong to you since it ended up becoming a flame topic anyway, but there's also Politics & Government. Even Religion & Philosophy seems more fitting than Entertainment & Television.
Excuse me?
Are you aware that there's an event at tonight's game to promote awareness for abused children? Or that a lot of people are pissed that the media is mentioning everyone BUT Sandusky? And wondering why the fuck he was allowed on campus? Or that there was a petition to have Graham Spanier fired for supporting Curly & Schultz?
The students' complaints are basically the same as yours, with the exception of whether or not Joe "did enough." And honestly, reviewing the Wiki article of the scandal, he's easily the least responsible. We've got a janitor who witnessed an event but didn't do anything*, the chief of the Penn State police who ordered an event not to be investigated, & Curly, Spanier, & Schultz who just said, "You can't bring any kids into the football building."
A lot of his victims came from a charity he was running. Which Joe has no authority over. So I don't see how you think he's the "de facto head of Penn State," there's clearly several people above him.
*=If he's not just making that up, apparently he has dementia.
Short version: Don't you think YOU'D be pissed if you were baselessly accused of supporting pedophiles?

And what does that have anything to do with what's going on?
Ironbite-that's such a non sequiter that I can't follow where you're going here.

Ibs, I think his point is "HURR DURR some child abusers are Catholic clergy so clearly there's a connection!!"
Never mind that youth directors and ministers in Protestant churches have been found guilty of child molestation as well. It's not just a Catholic problem.

That guy's rant is ridiculous. First of all, I see it was ESPN, so it makes perfect sense that he was asked to keep his questions about sports. They're a damn sports network. Also, talk about attacking someone for any minor point you can pick up on. I don't exactly see how "let's let the legal process unfold" is an unfair statement or how he was expected to help the kid personally when the witness probably didn't ask for names.
I also took some YouTube comments that interested me.
The bolded word. This guy either does not know what it means or does not believe in having evidence when sentencing people. You know, the guy on the video did that too. I don't think you have a very strong point when you're making all of these claims & calls to action, yet you have to keep tossing out "but I might be completely full of shit."
Yes. How dare anyone say it was anyone's fault other than Paterno's. After all, he was the one molesting the kids, wasn't he? Oh, he wasn't? Well, shit, I guess that opens up the possibility that he's actually NOT responsible. And "Penn State," that's such a useless claim. Who AT Penn State? The students? The staff? The board of trustees? The janitors?
I'm thinking of getting some videos from the students, but for some reason they're loading absurdly slowly. So, I'll work on that, & see if I can't get back to ya.
