A religious leader lying to promote his religion? Oh, hell, no! [/sarcasm]
You just knew there had to be reasonable explanation for his stigmata. Besides, the location on his hands is incorrect as the bleeding should be on the wrists if they were to accurately portray the wounds of a crucified person.

Correct. The hands can't support much weight, they would rip right off the nails.

He may have been a fraud, in a religion of frauds, but even I have to give him credit: he was a pretty fucking dedicated fraud.
But I love the whiny response to this debunking!
Translation: "*fingers in ears* Laaa laaa laaa, I can't hear you!"

Yet more evidence that the Catholic Church doesn't care about the truth...
Clearly, in addition to being the creator of fascism, Mussolini must also be impugned for making the Vatican a sovereign state, so that they could do whatever they want with impunity.

Unfortunately, this papal infaliability thing will mean that the douche will always be a saint, long after this news item fades from memory.

What I find offensive and arrogant is the assertion by Pietro Siffi that everyone must accept this asinine claim of infallibility, even if they are not Catholic. Apparently to Mr. Siffi, studying religion properly means accepting without question everything the Roman Catholic Church tells you to accept. That's not "study." That's "discipleship." They are two very different things.
I would suggest to Mr. Siffi that he dedicate his energies to studying reality properly. I recommend he begin his studies with the insistence of past Popes that the Sun orbits the Earth and continue until he gets to the baffling decisions by the Holy See to protect child molesters.
I note in the accompanying links that the Church apparently had full knowledge of Pio's duplicity, since the documents proving the fraud were kept in the Vatican archives.
** LOL Modified to correct, of all things, a goddamn dangling participle.

Oh, well, if it's supported by papal infallibility that's good enough for me.

Let's not forget the hosts that turned into REAL flesh! And not only did it happen in Poland last year, it happened years ago in Brazil! PROOF that the Catholic Church wields true divine power! Well, if it weren't for those people who called the police and asked for an investigation of that chunk of dead flesh.
Who says that secularism is trying to destroy the Church? It's doing such a great job all by itself!

From the pic in the OP, it looks more like he has hair growing on his palm! A similar picture on the Wikipedia article indicates that those are his hand wraps. Further down is a picture of him with two neat circular wounds.

Correct. The hands can't support much weight, they would rip right off the nails. Actually, this was retested with more modern methods & found to not be true. And, in the time it took between that study & this post, THOSE results may have been overturned, for all I know. Frankly, the Romans' precise methods of crucifixion are still something of a head-scratcher.
