Here's something even crazier: visiting Friendly Atheist, there was this post from Reddit, about this atheist who went into a Christian store. He noted that they had a t-shirt printer that printed verses. Well... www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2011/11/25/a-christian-store-denied-him-this-t-shirt/#disqus_threadYep, he(?) made them look up a part of their holy book that stated something they didn't like, and they shouted persecution. This is like getting someone to look up a rule they aren't ware of for their favorite sport, something they won't like, and complain, "You're ruining my favorite sport!" I mean...they're calling foul because their "infallible" book isn't all sweets and sunshine, and they blame the atheist for it. I dunno about you, but smeg like this makes me wonder if these people just call themselves "Christian" for "pay attention to me, I'm important!" reasons.

She probably thinks of it like a "hurr durr you claim to follow a book that says something that stupid" thing, but calling him disrespectful doesn't change the fact that she does actually claim to follow a book that says something that stupid.

This kind of reminds me of when I corrected my ultra-religious neighbors on a part in Revelations. I wasn't allowed back to play with my friend for a bit after that.

Reminds me of when a fundie corworker (finally fired after 3 suspensions) was spouting off Bible quotes to slam non-Christians (it SO irked her that I'm Buddhist), gays and lesbians, and basically anyone who disagreed with her. When I countered with the Proverb (I believe 14:15) about not following things blindly, she said things can't be taken out of context.
Gotta love that, "If I agree with it, it needs to be followed word-for-word, otherwise it's out of context."

You know, I'm sure that their biggest beef with this is that the guy is an atheist, meaning he was technically trolling. Had the person requesting the shirt been a Christian, they'd probably think he was extra devout for broadcasting one of the unpopular Bible verses on his clothing.

Ezekiel 23:20
Joshua 7:24-25
Revelations 2:23
And who could forget...
Hosea 13:16

Lexi, there's also Ezekiel 4:13, in which God tells people to eat shit-bread due to famine.
It's rather interesting to me, how few people who believe in the Bible actually read it. Even more interesting is how upset they get when you point these things out, always saying that 'If you're reading the Bible looking for problems, the problems are with you'.
...Even though it's incredibly easy to find problems without even looking. It's like going for a walk and having a bear jump out in front of you. You didn't exactly *look* for the bear, but now that it's there, you can't really ignore it.

On a related note, there was an RR thread promoting waterboarding. When I posted some verses about love thy neighbor, etc., I got called out for "quoting Scripture at people" and was banned. People don't care what the Bible actually says, just so long as they have an excuse for their prejudices.

Kali, you're new, so I'll lay it out for you... don't try pointing out anything contradictory to RR. They just claim you're mis-interpreting the bible, ignore you, and will banhammer you.

Well, they seemed to have banhammered her so it's a moot point.

These people believe that nothing evil is written in the bible and if you find anything evil in it, then your just not a "true christian."
