What did old Abe do to violate the constitution? The big thing was suspension of habeas corpus. Only thing I really know off the top of my head, anyway. Little known fact- the constitution allows the government to temporarily restrict some rights in case of invasion or rebellion. I cannot find the ammendment, but it exists.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 2: Has often been understood to mean Congress. Also, Jose Padilla.

It's unlikely that Obama would not veto this, but if he does (or if Congress overrides such a veto) then democracy in the USA is officially over. Have you noticed that Congress has been trying to pass unconstitutional bill after after unconstitutional bill, literally within weeks of each other? It's official; even the Congress of 1860 cared more about freedom than these guys. What did old Abe do to violate the constitution? Lincoln wasn't president till 1861. I was referring to Congress at the time, not the President, anyway.

Regardless, this is such a huge violation of the Constitution that I'm surprised nobody's been brought up on charges of treason.
Ironbite-hardly surprising that this is how the government responds to OWS

Wow, I am willing to bet my government wishes they thought up stuff like this. Am I the only one wondering if the people who want something like this realize that having a foreign military just pop into another country and abducting its citizens without any reason is pretty much grounds for war being declared? Of course this is just looking beyond the whole tyrannical militaristic rule such laws would create.
Stuff like this really makes me wonder, who sits at their desk in their office and thinks up laws and measures like this. What kind of person sits there and honestly things crap like this is a good idea.

So, now the US government can 1) arrest Americans in America after searching their house without a warrant using 2) armed millitary forces and then 3) hold them without trial, or 4) try them in an illegal, unconstitutional non-court, 5) torture them, or have someone else torture them and then 6) execute them without trial, reasonable threat posed or reason. Just say "Freedom" until the bad taste in your mouth goes away. Painting yourself red white and blue stars and stripes will help too.

Just wondering, has a member of Congress ever been impeached before? Because now seems like a good time to start.

They don't get impeached. They get voted out of office. Which is what should happen but won't because people are stupid.
Ironbite-honestly the Tea Party is going to kill the GOP and take the rest of America with them.
