stevenandersonfamily.blogspot.com/2009/04/true-beauty.htmlWe all know Zsusannah Anderson, the wife of crazy (and recently tasered) preacher Stephen Anderson. But I was lurking about on her blog and came across this post. And, I have to say, it's complicated. On one hand she's kind of right: that people should focus on more important things than their appearance constantly. But... the way she goes about it is wrong. Only being concerned with being godly and adhering to religious doctrine doesn't absolve one from being held acceptable. When I was very little, my great-grandma told me something: I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like, "If you're an ugly person, it will show on the outside. Someone who may be very pretty could be ugly inside, and eventually, it will eat through them and their good looks will be destroyed." I think that Ms. Anderson would do well to remember that- ugly will manifest itself, and no amount of cosmetics or "godliness" will be able to hide that. Oh, and just FYI, I don't consider myself really attractive. So I'm not saying this to be really hypocritical.

Since I'm ugly on the outside and the inside I think they might cancel each other out.

Since I'm ugly on the outside and the inside I think they might cancel each other out. I was just commenting on her belief that people who don't cook and clean for their husbands and be fundies and such. I dunno, something about her post just came across as very obnoxious and self-righteous.

Well, it started out as a fairly decent post, then went to fundie drivel. The only things that make a woman truly beautiful are cooking and cleaning for her husband and having BAAAAYBEEES. Oh yeah, and loving Jesus.

It jumps the shark after the fourth paragraph.
I couldn't agree more with her until she says that God only wants women to cook clean and have children, because that is bloody stupid. I mean if we all did that we wouldn't have Audrey Toutou or Aishwarya Rai, or for that matter Joe Brand or Judy Dench.
I'm a bit of an ugly fucker, but I would be much happier if people would judge me purely on my horrible personality, not my horrible appearance, otherwise it isn't really fair. It might be accurate in my case, but not fair.

Wha That mother tending to her children could live a sad life too you know... Ah, but according to fundies, the only time a woman is happy is when she's working for her husband to make his home happier. They're all fucking stupid.

Somewhat apropos: "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clear to the bone." (I don't believe it, but it's funny anyway.)

As long as you groom yourself in some fashion, physical appearance doesnt' really register with me. I only notice the hideous lack of concern for one's health that shows up in the morbidly obese (think > 400 lbs) and the chronically unwashed. I'm a bit of an ugly fucker, but I would be much happier if people would judge me purely on my horrible personality, not my horrible appearance, otherwise it isn't really fair. It might be accurate in my case, but not fair. I dunno, in your avatar you look quite handsome and distinguished. But maybe that's just me.

I would say fix'd, but I've now got three words that I could steal without even faintly breaching copyright.

This probably won't get in, but I felt obliged to comment:
"Please don't assume that every woman who takes care of herself, refuses to have children, and focuses on other things has a sad life. I have a disability that is fairly inheritable, so having children who are likely to inherit it would be selfish and inconsiderate of me. I also believe that God gave me a mind, and to NOT use it would be a sin and a shame, hence I attend university. And any man who can't live with either is no man I wish to wed.
Besides, Jesus did what his mother wanted with the miracle of water into wine, so there's nothing wrong with men taking orders from a woman!"
