The Allies removed the leaders who directed the Germans' anger and frustration towards the Jews. You cannot do that with Afghanistan because the sexism exists in the grassroots level instead of being artificially inflamed by the leadership. So you're basically saying that we should secretly send a bunch of Western-educated people to Afghanistan in order to extol the virtues of feminism and equality? I like the way you think. It's certainly better than my plan of "depose sexist government, depose equally-sexist successor government, depose equally-sexist successor successor government, and so on until they get the point." I mentioned openly educating the younger generations which by the way is what the UN and other organizations are doing. |

It's good that the UN's doing something. Y'know, all this madness is entrenched in that society due to some idiot fundie clerics twisting the religion. Believe it or not, Islam, REAL Islam, is actually good about women. Granted, it's still Kyriarchal & whatnot but many of it's teachings are very pro-woman. Real Islam gives women a right to an education, a right to own property, a right to divorce her husband, etc. Mohammed himself STRESSED the importance of EDUCATING women & girls & the importance of reason & intellectualism. For every backwards teaching in the Muslim faith there's probably a few good, even progressive teachings. We need GOOD Muslims who know their stuff & emphasize the "good stuff" in Islam to come in a teach & preach to these fundie societies. Faith & Reason can coexist & the Muslim world, long ago, had a "Golden Age" where there were high living standards, education & great advances in science, mathematics, art, literature, philiosophy, infrastructure, etc.....all while Europe languished in the "Dark Ages". Much of those advances were DUE to Islam NOT in spite of it.
Islam, even true Islam isn't perfect but it beats the garbage that the fundies are doing. The Wahabis/Salafis are in league with Iblis, not Allah. Likewise, ChristoFundies are in league with Satan, not Jesus. We need Muslim clerics who emphasise Islams good points. THIS WILL COUNTERACT FUNDYISM. To change a messed-up demographic, you need intelligent people OF that demographic to counter the craziness. Men need to speak out against misogyny. Real Christians who walk the walk need to speak out agains Puritans. True Muslims need to speak out against Wahabi Wackos. Africans need to speak out against the craziness in Africa. Insider or outsider, we need to work together.
