So, we're around about the 3 week mark, and, objectively, my recovery is proceeding apace. I'm walking by myself, attending to ADLs by myself, and doing physio and OT to regain function in my left arm and improve use of my left leg. Today, I graduated from minced/moderate thickness diet to normal liquids, but my speaking voice is still not unlike that of Stephen Hawking, and the realisation just hit me that if it doesn't improve, I'm never going to read bedtime stories to my daughter again. Oh, and like 1/5 of people, I have an open foramen ovale, which by a process of elimination, they have decided is responsible for this mess, so on top of everything else, I need heart surgery too. So I feel like I'm about to fall apart and generally sorry for myself.

Hopefully it all works out well.
On the plus side, speech software has come a long way, and now you can get programs that sound pretty natural. Hopefully you won't need one though.

Hang tough, LHM. There are a lot of people pulling for you. I didn't know so many people found him so sexy. Jokes aside, you'll be fine. You sound like you're making steady headway with the recovery and though surgery may delay things somewhat, you'll still pull through in the end. Get well soon, friend.

I know I'm new here and we don't know one another well, but best of luck with everything and stay optimistic. Nothing makes these things worse like getting down on life or down on yourself. Anyways, again, best wishes.
