Did we win? No. Did we get rid of a dictator? Yes. Did we dismantle an entire country and leave it to civil war? Yes.

I don't think anybody won. Except those that thrive on instability (ie: terrorists).

I don't think anybody won. Except those that thrive on instability (ie: terrorists). And private government contractors like Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, and Academi (formerly Blackwater).

Yes, we won. Things are much, much better there now.

Great. Now can we get out of Afghanistan? No. You're a terrorist for even asking.

I don't really care at this point. The situation still sucks.

So is that an actual total withdrawal or is it just propaganda to give the appearance of progress (in the vein of Bush's "mission accomplished" speech)?

Of course we won! Didn't you see President Bush having a Mission Accomplished party on an aircraft carrier? That means we won and the Nazis were defeated.

So is that an actual total withdrawal or is it just propaganda to give the appearance of progress (in the vein of Bush's "mission accomplished" speech)? Real. Also, Bush's little photo-op was about a single mission, not the war as a whole. Obama's thing about "combat" troops being withdrawn was more propaganda than this. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to scrub myself off after defending Bush the Lesser.

Take bets on how long it'll take for the country to be overthrown by Islamic theocrats. I give it a couple of months.

In such a case, I'm hoping a Kurdish separatist movement creates a homeland for Kurds. I can always dream it would be a more or less enlightened liberal democracy.

We're leaving about 15000 for "embassy" staff.
Ironbite-so really...we've just exchanged an army for a task force.
