If it's historical then put in a museam. You can take my historical items from my cold, dead fingers. grandpa gave us an old sword from around WWI. It's rusted a little and not sharp at all but you can clearly make out the name "James Booth" on the side. I was so sad when I realized it was from WWI and not the Civil War, that Booth never really served, and that he neither had any brothers named James OR went by James himself. Because...as fucked up as he is, that'd be really badass to have John Wilks Booth's rapier.

At least it wasn't Seeley Booth. That'd be weird. Mainly because Seeley is only supposed to be fictionally related to JW.
I have a 1939 Mosin Nagant that I'd cry if anything happened to. I really want to get a PPsH and I'm interested in getting a few old pistols from the Civil War era.

Not exactly the most sophisticated weapons ever, know what I mean?

But I collect trinkets throughout history and i just so happen to adore Mosin Nagants. Notwithstanding that many of the greatest snipers the world has ever seen popped a lot of heads with the weapon. But sure. 'Russian shitsticks'. Whatever makes you feel good.

I have a friend with a Mosin. She says she'll let me fire it at the local range when I come to visit, too.
... I still want a nice Beretta, though.

If it's historical then put in a museam. There's nothing wrong with personally collecting historical items, not even ones that are racist in nature. It is how they are displayed/what you do with them that matters. Like, put it up in your parlor, or even not immediately noticeable in a cabana or a covered bar (suddenly imagining a rich person, don't know why) next to the pool. So you can point at it an say " Jeely Cly, can you believe people used to do this?" Own it ironically, own it historically, whatever. Just don't use it for the intended purpose. That's true. But what I'm wondering is, why did she display it by the pool? I mean, didn't wouldn't she know that people would take it the wrong way?

But sure. 'Russian shitsticks'. Whatever makes you feel good. Those Russian shitsticks did more to end the war in Europe then the Garand and the Enfield put together. Not to mention that until you put one to your shoulder you just wont appreciate how damn brutally simple and effective they are. There is a certain elegance to them that says 'This is a weapon of war. It is not meant to be pretty, it is not meant to be a technological showcase, it is meant to kill. Doing that effectively is it's only purpose; the rest is fluff and we are not going to waste our time on fluff when we have a war to win.' Hell, they are still using the 7.62x54R cartridge for medium-long range work (granted, in a new rifle). I still wish I'd had the money to pick up that Mosin snipers rifle all those years ago. (I don't have a license any more, and that's not liable to ever change, besides, my collection is large enough and just collects dust)

Fun fact: you can still find Mosin Nagants being used on the field in the Middle East. So they're a damn robust weapon and to just toss them to the side because they're old is doing the beautiful piece of weaponry a damn disservice.

I remember reading that some of the Mujhadeen resistance were using old (Zulu war era) rolling block rifles during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It's a perfect climate for steel and wood to last forever.

More fun facts about mosin nagants: You know those snipers you hear about like Zaytsev and Lyudmila Pavlichenko? Both used them to rack up epic kill counts. PS. ammo for a Mosin is generally cheaper than other ammo so you can pop off to the range for a full day cheaper than with a different, more modern weapon. So please, think before you badmouth Russian weaponry. The Russians, while their gov't may be dicks, are no slouches when it comes to badass guns. Sorry for the derail!

It could make an interesting, historical decoration if you, say, kept it in your parlor, far from any pool, where the irony of the sign would be obvious. But a sign that says “Public Swimming Pool: Whites Only” by an actual pool—public or otherwise—Yeah, that’s not gonna fly. QFT.
