www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,7197,00.html According to snopes.com, the baby's hand was just resting on his finger. It didn't reach up and grab it. Try telling that to a fundie.

So we get to see that plastered all over billboards?
Fun.

And, that also wasn't a late-abortion being performed in that picture, as many fundies claim it is. People are fucking idiots who will believe anything.

Of course they think so, even when the doctor says otherwise. People on RR base their entire lives on wishful thinking. The things they already believe, you could make them believe anything, as long as it fits with their particular interpretation of the bible. I want to ask; where goes the line between having faith and just being gullible?

It occurs to me there could be legal issues with the fundies using the image and story as part of a campaign. If they attribute to the doctor statements or sentiments he's explicitly rejected, he could possibly have a case for libel.

I want to ask; where goes the line between having faith and just being gullible? There is no line. Kinda like a Venn diagram with only one circle.

There is indeed a line, thank you.
More on topic, I heard about that story years ago. The way it was told to me is that the fetus was getting a surgery due to a really bad deformity that would have gotten worse without immediate intervention, and the hand just sort of plopped up there and curled around his finger sort of the same way a baby will grasp your finger in their sleep if you press your finger into their hand. It was adorable, yes, but there were no sky daddies in the original version, and I even heard it from a regular church-goer.
It's amazing how things will get twisted over time.

i can see it now,
"The doctors are lying. They are just trying to push the gay agenda."

It happened on House, ergo, it must be real.

Sounds like the doctor was looking for a scapegoat. That's kind of sick, a doctor playing 'pull my finger,' with an unborn baby.
If this proves anything about God, it's that God has a really twisted sense of humor.

It happened on House, ergo, it must be real. It did? I remember it happening on Scrubs, but I don't remember it happening on House.

And I remember that I've been seeing it on more shows than Scrubs and House - they really like to perpetuate the idea of that, don't they? I guess it's just a very strong visual that can be used to instill emotion in the audience, so I see why they use it. Of course it's unfortunate that they use it, since many fundies seem utterly unable to separate fact and fiction.
