I totally do NOT believe that what someone says to their kid isn't any of your business as long as it isn't illegal. Basic human decency forces you to say something if someone is being bullied. And what this man was doing to his kid was bullying.

I said, "Excuse me, I couldn't help overhearing..." and I asked the girl how old she was. She said she was almost twelve. So I asked her dad, "If she was twelve and told you she wanted to spend MORE time at church and that she wholeheartedly believed in god, would she still be too young to make that choice?" "Of course not, it's her choice to make!" (He didn't realize I was walking him straight into a trap.) And what a nice trap it was. You not only made the girl feel better about not believing, but you probably gave her father something to think about.

And what this man was doing to his kid was bullying. I don't know if I'd call it bullying as much as I'd call it ignorance. He seems to brush off his daughter's doubts as just some phase (I hate when adults do that). With that said, I think what Cait did was awesome. I hate this reletivism crap. It's fine if everyone wants to believe a certain way, but when it affects other people, or in this case, does not allow them a choice in the matter, it's only fair to speak up for those who have no voice. She didn't even interfere with his rights as a parent, just made sure his daughter knew that she wasn't alone. He may have been pissy, but a lot of Christians get pissy when someone dares to have different views, so no sympathy for him.

This took place at a public location. The conversation was public.
Suffice it to say, you didn't do ANYTHING wrong. What you did was the right thing :-)
