This has been bothering me for a few days now. It seems that if I make a one-line joke response to something that appears ridiculous, nobody gets it. It appears people are usually in an aggressive, confrontational frame of mind when they comment. It happened a few days ago. I was referred to as an "ironic douche" (an insult that's actually quite hard to understand since the best humour comes from irony, especially when dealing with fundies!). A lady commenter (who I had quite liked) then agreed and stated that I'd "crossed the line". What line? This is FSTDT! The stuff I've read in some comments can be as bad as (if not worse than) the fundies!
I always take a lighthearted approach to the ridiculous statements of fundies. The only exception is with people like pastor Ron E. Williams and fschmidt, who are dangerous individuals and should be dealt with by the authorities.
If I read something completely batshit (about demons or something), my usual response is "Sounds reasonable to me". It's just irony, as I'm sure many of you realise. My gripe is that many commenters sadly go down the same road as the fundies, creating strawmen, acting hatefully, and making statements unspported by evidence. One commenter suggested "Our Side Says The Darndest Things". Well, please define the term "our side"! We all have different stances, different experiences and thoughts!
I must admit I wish I understood as much about physics, biology, and hitory as many of you do... it is quite impressive to read how much knowledge there is among you.
But lighten up, for goodness sake, and lay off the personal attacks on each other.
