This got me thinking about it: www.fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=62138specifically this: Now am I the only one noticing that invoking satans name doesn't help the evil lieberals at all? It seems like the only people who bring up satan are the religious right who claim him to be working with every single person they hate, regardless of whether its religious. Democrats? satan. Homosexuals? satan. environmentalists? satan. Anyone who isn't a GOP stooge? satan. The amazing thing is that satan is all they need, once you've branded a group as evil and demonic you don't need to justify your hatred to your followers, not when your fighting satan! It seems to me that the religious right is the only group gaining power from satan's influence, the same religious right that is driving away the young from faith in droves with their bigotry, ignorance and blatant politicization of christianity. *we've all seen people who dont consider democrats christian* Am I the only one who finds it strange that a group doing satan's work by destroying religion and being empowered by satan's supposed influence is the one claiming to be fighting against him?

Especially once you realize that, in the Bible, Satan was never the "big baddy". He was working FOR God to test people on earth, and to present the facts against them in heaven. In fact, "Satan" wasn't even a person, it was a title. Of course, it doesn't matter what the Bible says, it only matters how each of their leaders interprets the Bible

This is probably one of religion's greatest pulls. The world really is a lot simpler once you've divided everyone into "us" and "minions of satan".

It's not surprising, really. Fundies created the modern version of Satan to fulfil that specific purpose.

The word "satan" just means "enemy", so yes, everyone who doesn't agree with the fundies is satan. Everyone who isn't on their side is their enemy.
Now, if they were saying "Lucifer", it'd be a different story. That's an actual name if I remember correctly.

Lucifer is a fallen angel of heaven, but it really depends on your interpretation of that passage of the bible. It's certain the name attributed to Satan, but it's a little wishy washy on if Lucifer actually is Satan or not.
At least that's what I can grasp from that whole thing.
