In high school my religion teacher (catholic HS, I called that class "brainwashing in the name of christ" class) showed some video on the Cassie Bernall thing. I responded by bringing in a point-by-point rebuttal with multiple sources to back me up. I think the teacher kinda hated me after that. Or was it when I quoted Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" from memory in the middle of class? One of those.

Or was it when I quoted Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" from memory in the middle of class? Lulz. I would have went with either Jeremy by Pearl Jam or I don't like Monday's by the Boomtown Rats, just to make a point about bullying, but lulz and exalts to you anyway.

I really, really hate Misty Bernall: What a cunt. Ah, yes, nothing says love in Christ like exploiting your faith and the death of your own child and others does. Always thought that was just sad and pitiful. I wonder if she'll speak out again and what she'll say, heh.

I've been doing a lot of reading into Columbine for years now because thanks to the 'zero tolerance' bullshit and other misconceptions, I, like others here, was often targeted as being 'the next Columbine kid', by peers and even by some of my more Conservative, O'Reilly-fellating family members. I'm a big fan of Marilyn Manson? I must be primed for a killing spree, even though it was easily-accessible knowledge that the boys quite disliked him. I'm extremely interested in moral relativism, which leads to things like me loving film and literature based realistically in 'the dark side'? Oh yeah, I've probably got an AK-47 in my room and am waiting for a fuckin' excuse. I like wearing leather jackets and combat boots? Shit, I'm a goddamned ticking time-bomb, and the only logical thing to do is hassle me about it, because that obviously would make me less inclined to kill somebody.
A lot of this is stuff I already knew - such as the fact that they weren't targeting Christians. It's still an interesting read though. Gadfly, thanks for that link, too. iMonk consistently hits the mark... it's good to see religious people rejecting the culture war shite that emerged from the terrible tragedy.

My 6th grade science teacher said I looked like the type who would shoot up our school as well. It sucked hearing that from a teacher, but instead of taking a gun and shooting everyone, I handled it like all of my problems: I became incredibly depressed and sat in my room. I take things out physically on myself when I'm upset, not on other people.

In high school I also had people walking up to me and asking (dead seriously!) when I shot up the school, would I shoot them? Apparently noone understood that liking metal doesn't make me an mass murderer. And no matter how many times I assured them I wasn't gonna shoot up the school, they never believed me and repeatedly asked me that question. Dead seriously. I think that bears repeating, this wasn't just people trying to pick on me. didn't exactly do wonders for my already-damaged self-esteem there.

Wow. I'm almost half done high school and all I get is people asking me if I'm gay or not because I have long hair, wear my hair in a ponytail (or fag tail as my mom called it because it's only the back that's up), wear a black and pink belt and wore or done someting that didn't fit someone's unrealistic standards of manliness.
My english teacher even told a student that I'm trying to discover my sexuality just because I wore a girl's sweater. Although I imagine said teacher would have to ask a students help to spell sexuality just like she had to ask how to spell primitive.
But rather than get mad or depressed about it I just shrug and/or laugh it off and remind myself they're gonna die before I do.

I was recently informed that I was thought of as, "That Weird Girl". People that I had been going to school with since first grade thought I would shoot up the school. The reason? I sit in the back and I'm quiet.

After a rather publicised school shooting, I was thought of as "most likely to kill us all". Somehow they thought telling me this continuously would help.

Never understood that one myself, I narrowly dodged getting 'most likely to shoot up the school' after a campaign of seperating who was most likely and who would do the most damage. I won the second one, came second in the first to someone with real problems.

For me, bullying dropped off for a short time because of such fears; everyone knew I was the school punching bag, and after Columbine people were afraid I might snap the way the shooters did.
After a couple of weeks of relative peace and quiet, though, it was back to business as usual.

You know, this makes me glad that I graduated before Columbine.
In my day, we only had to deal with drugs and gang fights (graduated in 93). If kids had a problem with each other, they met after school and had at it. Problem solved when someone was on the ground.
Damn kids these days!
