House's move from the medicine to the characters is precisely what turned me off to it. It's still not a bad show, though it's not as good as the early seasons, but honestly I don't care about the characters. House is cool, Cuddy is hot, and Wilson is downright awesome despite how broken he is, but beyond that - DO COOL MEDICAL STUFF, DAMMIT. Here is a doctor who reviews the House episodes. His opinion on a lot of it doesn't matter too much, but when it comes to the medicine itself obviously he's a good resource.

Current: Simple Explanation, Episode 20, was the one I watched.
MaybeNever: If you could find something like that for Scrubs, so that I could compare them, & hopefully give a big in-your-face to my anatomy teacher, you would be my new best friend.
As for House...I like House, the character, but not House, the show. Unfortunately for House, the character, there is no way I'm going to watch House, the show, just to se House, the character, when Dr. Cox is so much more awesome, and in a much more awesome show that I don't have to specify as being a show, not a character.

House the show is essentially CSI:ER. House the character is John Constantine as a doctor.

House is really just a crime drama with the criminal replaced by a disease. Well, yeah. House is Sherlock Holmes. - Note the name similarities: House and Holmes (Homes)
- Holmes had a sidekick named Doctor Watson. House's only real friend is Doctor Wilson.
- Holmes was addicted to cocaine. House is addicted to Vicodin.
- Holmes played the violin. House plays the piano (and guitar?)
- Holmes said, and this may not be 100% accurate, "whenever you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." That's House's diagnostic method.
- Arthur Conan Doyle actually based Holmes on an MD he knew.
- Plus, when Hugh Laurie and... whoever it is that plays Wilson... auditioned for the series, at least one of them actually thought they were auditioning for a Holmes and Watson series, based on the character description they were provided.

Yeah, I saw on Wiki that House was supposed to parallel Holmes. When I thought about the way he just sort of deducted the disease, rather than actually doing anything medical, that made sense. It also explains the cane & coat, which were somewhat out-of-place. Not sure if Holmes used a cane, but it certainly hammers home the "old-style detective" image.
Holmes wouldn't happen to have been a radical atheist as well, would he?

Holmes wouldn't happen to have been a radical atheist as well, would he? I'm not sure, but I doubt it, considering Conan Doyle got into spiritualism heavily later in life.

I ask this because I read on the Tropes wiki something like he has a scoreboard with "Wins for House" & "Wins for God," & every time he loses a patient, he puts a tally under the latter. Which is both appaling & awesome.

Holmes had a walking stick. It was the fashion of the day. I don't think I've ever heard anything about Holmes and religion.

From what I remember, there were a few references to belief in God, but I'm not sure if they were Holmes' or Watson's.

ER junkie, here, and I'm putting the season one DVD set on my Christmas list this year. Watching ER was like catching up with old friends, every week.
House is still pretty fun, though I agree it could do with less interpersonal drama and MOAR MEDICAL DRAMA!
And DHC. I'm totally hooked on Mystery Diagnosis.

Pulled a dick move. Turned in that URL with my paper. Didn't get a chance to edit my paper, either, so it's probably mostly anti-House comments.
I couldn't even answer questions like, "What did you learn from this," because I had no fucking clue what was going ON. They'd say a disorder, then throw it out as being wrong, lather, rinse, repeat, I know I missed the real diagnoses. Bah.
