I'm also an invisible lurker from the previous incarnation of the site, and likely to remain one post-regeneration. I just didn't want you to calculate the demographics of fundie lurkers versus non-fundie lurkers incorrectly.

As a frequent lurker of...a lot of places, I'd say the crisis/switch acts as sort of an ice-breaker for people who might have remained anonymous before. When you're hanging around a well-established board where a lot of names are recognizable at a glance, it can be pretty intimidating. For me, anyway. The reboot (for lack of a better word) lets everyone get a fresh start. I agree. That was a big reason why I never posted anything on the old site or forums either. I noticed that too when I first joined, and considering my social confidence issues its a small miracle that I ever made a single post, elt alone a htousand. But then again I joined within a couple of months of Lazy, Rebellious Scot, Green-eyed Lilo (haven't seen her around here yet), Harley (haven't seen him either) and Lithp, so I had quite a few other people in the same boat as me. I guess with this latest crisis you'll all get a load of compatriots to encourage the lurkers to mingle.

Count me in the "invisible lurker" crowd. Made submissions that got accepted, made comments, never went near the forum much. I expect a lot of others are the same.

We won't bite, much. Except Red who's a total perv but you all know that already. And I love the name "faintpraise".

I have been around, only mostly on the main page and not in the forum. Last time you all knew me, I was about to graduate from Ohio State. Now I live in Philadelphia, am in grad school, and just got engaged. Yay! (That also might explain why my posting was limited lately...)

Another long-time lurker here. I've spent time reading both the forums and main page.

I was annoyed at having to enter an email address. ...don't you have to provide an e-mail address to sign up to the vast majority of sites that you can sign up to? I can't think of any where you don't, offhand.

Eh, after the crap on the old forums I have every intention of building it into the new ones as well. Even a minute delay is enough to can the fuckers most of the time, but we didn't really have that on the old boards.

Having an email addy for the account is also a good way for recovering passwords, notifying people of large scale changes, and verification of other things.
Course, it could also be amusing to put into a terms of service thingy that if someone spams the boards, they consent to having their inbox spammed/flooded with junk.
