I've always loved the guitar. I wish I could play it, but sadly, I'm musically challenged.

I thought for a while about starting to play guitar, but then I actually had a chance and tried to play one. I sucked. I suck even at air guitar

I suck at air guitar, too, so I play the air drums. I suck slightly less at the air drums.

Hmm, I've never actually tried air drums x) But I've tried real ones few times. Liked it actually.
Edit: no, I wasn't too good at that either, but it was fun ^^

Since Rock Band, I've found myself air drumming in the car a lot. I probably look freaking insane, but it's fuuuuuuuun. I actually picked up the guitar because my bandmate went fundie. He used to be really cool, but he went to a Christian college and I guess fell into a bad crowd or something, because he came back all hardcore and stuff. When I got rid of him, I needed some way to actually write music, so I talked myself into a cheap guitar, and kept practicing despite my stupid hands (They mirror themselves something awful). Still not great or anything, but I get a lot of pleasure from playing.

I had two semesters of guitar lessons in college. Once in a while I'll pick it up and try to play some AC/DC songs. ^_^ I'm too uncoordinated to play drums though.

I'm horrible at intruments. The only instrument I really played was the recorder in fourth grade. I stopped when I was kicked out of the recorder club for sucking so much.

I tried to play the guitar but when I did, my fingers turned into half-mushy sausages held together by cheap dollar store masking tape.

I kinda suck at AC/DC leads, but I can play the basic chords and what not, so I love playing Highway and "You Shook Me All Night Long." On a side note, I can't really play piano, but I've got enough fundamental knowledge from college that I can sort of bang out some stuff. About the only thing I can play, I've discovered is "In the End" by Linkin Park. I actually discovered this at a dinner party, and I'm pretty thankful it was casual.

Yeah, I can't play the solos but I can do easy stuff like "Hells Bells", "Back in Black" and "Jailbreak". ^_^ I can play a little piano too but nothing too complicated.

Learning guitar isn't that hard, hell, I learned! Mostly, it's practice, training your fingers to do something they're not used to doing. When you fingertips start to blister or hurt, stop for a day or two, then have at it again. Limit your practice to an hour or so at first. Once the callouses build up on your fingertips, you will play painlessly, (unless you get old and develop arthritis, like me). I still play and practice an hour or so a day. If you just want to strum-a-long, learn the basic open chords, and the changes for each key, and bash away. Sing out loud while you do. Concentrate on the singing, and the playing will follow. Ignore your mistakes, plough on through. After a time, it will become natural. Plan on a few months in private, though. Also, if you purchase a guitar, check to see how much "loft" there is on the strings. Try to pick out a guitar with strings close to the fretboards. Also, a little secret. Fingering the chords on a twelve string is actually easier on your fingers, and the callouses develop with less pain. A twelve string is just like a six-string, but with an extra set of strings, tuned an octave apart (except for the two thinnest ones - B and E - they're tuned identically). It really isn't too tough, if you put in the time. How much you learn after the basic chords is up to you. Don't be intimidated, really. If an old, arthritic bugger like me can still play, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

It takes about a week for the callouses to form. Also, if you know how to read music and you already play one instrument it's easier to learn something else.

My dad, a Baptist pastor, has several guitars. He can rock. It's a long story.

Hey, I just think it's good that some people there are thinking of things other than being rescued by Jesus and taken to heaven in a glorious cosmic "I told you so!" or figuring out who they hate today.
