CNN videoMattel has decided that girls are dropping Dora too early, and so to get Dora into the "'tween" market they intend to unveil a "teenage" Dora this fall. With long legs, a skirt, and hair that goes down to her back. Even though only a silhouette has been put out, people are already fearing that Mattel is going to turn Dora into another Bratz line.

Aaaaand this is what you get when you have 50-year old men making marketing decisions for young girls.

Is she still going to talk to them like they're eight?

Is she still going to talk to them like they're eight? Of course, that's how all good girls talk, as long as they're pretty. Haven't you noticed all the 20 year olds who sound like 5 year olds out there?

Dora scares me already. Tween Dora will probably give me nightmares.

Let me get this straight. In this economy, they're going to risk alienating actual paying customers, who, even if they aren't sticking around for long, are at least there for a little while, by stretching a successful line beyond recognition and changing the stuff younger kids and their parents like about it? (Like, that she looks and acts like a little girl and isn't at all sexualized?)
I swear, if I'd gone to a more prestigious b-school and gotten hit in the head with a cast-iron pan a few times, I might be able to comprehend how these executives think!

So they've released the image of the new Dora. I have to say, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Though, I still think it's a dumb idea.

It's actually pretty cute, but it would probably help to call it something else. Also, what's with that humongous head?

Wow she lost weight. Yeah I dunno if they should be calling it Dora any longer. That looks nothing like Dora.
