As you all know, I need money. I'm considering designing christian t-shirts and mugs and stuff and selling them on CafePress. Christians are such a bit audience, I figure I've got a good shot at earning some extra dough (I'd use free CP shops, so there wouldn't be any overhead).
Thing is, I'm concerned that doing this would make me a terrible person, profiting off a religion I don't believe in. What do you think?

I don't think it would make you a terrible person. When it comes to something like art, the choice is very personal. How do YOU feel about it?
The way I see it is, it's not like you'd be Peter Popoff, selling "miracle spring water" and shit. You wouldn't really be selling a fake product.
As a fellow artist, if I were in your position, I would have no problems with making Christian merchandise if there was a demand for it. As long as the customer is happy with my work, I'm happy as well. But as I said, it's more of a personal thing.
-edit-
I should add: I really don't know where I would draw the line, it would have to be redrawn every time a new idea comes up. If someone wanted me to produce some racial or anti-gay pieces, I would refuse. But if it's just stuff like angels with bible quotes underneath and stuff, I wouldn't mind doing that.

I can't see why you would be. Your customers are buying your product, not you, so your beliefs are irrelevant to them. I can't see who would be harmed by the action.

That's kinda what I'm thinking, but I worry that someone might be mad about their money that they spent on christian merchandise going to a heathen. But then again, I kinda think that's their problem, not mine. But then again, I don't want to deceive anyone. I'm conflicted. I was also thinking of drawing a self portrait and selling it as a picture of Jesus. Is that wrong?

Well, the mischievous part of me finds the idea of people saying "Praise the Lord!" to a picture of my face hilarious.
EDIT: Which contributes to the "Am I evil?" question.

I've been there, or nearabouts, having been asked to fix computers for a local homeopath/crystal healer/general equaliser of the money-sense inequality a lot of folk have. Mercifully, in the end, something else came up, and I could knock it back, but it was touch and go, as in I was on my way to the job (hadn't phoned to confirm I could do it) and got other work when I called in for coffee.
At the bottom, though, a principle is a fine thing to have, but so is a loaf of bread. You can do without one for a few months, but not the other, and no-one rational will think any the less of you if you do.

I don't think so at all. It's not like you are making those hatefull WBC shirts. As long as it's in demand and your customer's are happy, then I don't see a problem with it.

I see no problem with it. You are not supporting anything bad that their religious organizations might do by selling a product. I'm against buying from fundies, but not selling to fundies.

Better money in sex toys. Also, sex toys will never go away. In fact, I'm pretty sure that particular industry is doing rather well right now.

I would venture to say that a decent percentage of those who currently make Christian themed items are not Christian.
Especially since a decent percentage are made in China and other Asian countries...

Bah, just get some flesh lights, go to a nearby comic book convention, and sell them for a massive mark-up. Desperate lonely nerds will pay handsomely for those things. It's the closest they're likely to come to getting laid, you know.

Go for it, profiting from other people's stupidity is a vital part of the economy, and with the economy in the state it's currently in, you'd be evil not to.
