This makes me very depressed. My precious post count! At least I still have my reputation... Remember post-count = human worth. Well, there went my self worth. I think I may have just reached homeschooled status. Gee, tanks, dahling.

My post count was close to 666. Ah, well. Distind, you and the others dis a remarkable job. And I join those who proffer sincere thanks. (Even better, I sent a modest donation.) I also join those who are fixed on fstdt. If I didn't have my daily fix I'd be a mess.

I was out of town all week and so missed all the excitement. When I logged onto the old site this evening, I knew something was wrong because the posts were all old!
Thanks Distend for getting this going. I'm not sure what I would have done without my Internet-crack! ;D

I haven't been online much, and then I checked out FSTDT and saw that it had been closed.
May I add my thanks to Dist. to the pile for saving some semblance of our beloved site?

Thank you Distind for all your hard work. I look forward to the new (er, or old/resurrected) board when it is done.

So, four or so weeks ago I lose access to FSTDT at work as my employer updated the 'access denied' list. Dammit! FSTDT used to help me through the day...
Now the site does what is effectively a disappearing act.
Where can I vent my spleen?
I wait, on tenterhooks, with baited breath for the new incarnation.
Or has the Rapture actually come to pass...?

Erm, sorry if this was asked before but I'm in a bit of a rush and wanna post this question before I forget:
Who's Yahweh and why did he pull the plug on the old site?

Yahweh was the owner of the old site. She just got burned out with it and moved on the other things.
That is the very short version.

On Jan 5, I wrote the following to Distind: I think the golden age of FSTDT is over, and I've been plannning to put the site in readonly mode to prevent the site from recieving any new submissions. I'm not really sure what I'll do about the community, whether I'll migrate the threads to another board, or just lock the board. That's the general plan I have in the very near future, so I'm not going to worry about banning users at this time. I was planning to lock the site on New Years, but I may have partied too hard to remember Its sad, but true, I think the site should go out with dignity. I wrote that on Jan 5, but procrastinated on locking it until March 1. Basically, I created the site when WinAce announced he was pulling the plug (he was very ill). More or less, I liked FSTDT, so I volunteered some code for the project. As as programmer whose only hobby is programming, I really liked writing the site from scratch. It was a valuable learning experience and a lot of fun. When I got my first programming job, I wrote code for money instead of for my own enjoyment. I worked on projects that I had no interest in. When I started programming professionally, I stopped wanting to write code as a hobby, and I couldn't bring myself to work on the site anymore. Of course, being a work in progress, there were some bugs, some little things I wanted to do but couldn't find the compelling desire to get anything written. I wrote code for the site sporadically, but the more I did, the buggier it got (FSTDT trivia: I re-wrote FSTDT from scratch on at least 4 different occasions). The code on the site is actually shamefully embarrassing: I basically taught myself ASP.NET while writing the site, so some of the code is extremely amateurish. The database design, however, was actually pretty reasonable. (Another fun bit of FSTDT trivia, I wrote my own ORM because NHiberate was too slow. However, the ORM I wrote suffered from implementation problems, causing it to hit the database dozens of times per page load -- still, it was faster than NHibernate.) My worst habit when something embarrasses me is just not to look at it. So that's exactly what I did for about a year, probably longer. Of course, I was already burned out on the site, and I couldn't bring myself to run it, and I botched the transfer of the site to Distind. Royally. The site kept nagging me and I kept wanting to pretend it didn't exist. I took a look at the site back in January, noted all of the bugs, noted the quality of submissions, noted the declining traffic, and I said to myself "I think its time to put this site out of its misery". I thought it better euthanize the site rather than let the traffic fizzle slowly out of existence. I was well-aware that it would cause a rift in the community, but at the very least I can see that this board is thriving with activity (it even has three community banter forums!) I apologize that Distind couldn't pick up the FSTDT torch on better terms.

Well i have to admit, that made us a little flustered for a few days. You'll have to talk to Distind and see if there's any more things he needs. Other than that, I hope we can put that behind us and I sincerely hope you come back.

Oh my No-God! Yahweh, it's Yahweh! I only wish that you had transfered it sooner if you were so burned out. However, FSTDT will never forget you. It was you who turned FSTDT into what it is today, we have comment lines and a forum.
Meanwhile, cheers! I'll drink one for you.

Welcome back Yahweh!
I hope you've noticed how hard we've been working to improve the mainpage from the way it used to be. We aren't quite there yet, but many of us are fully dedicated to ensuring that FSTDT fulfills its original purpose and becomes and remains something we can all be proud of. Heck, Distind even brought me in as a mod because of my tenacious focus on improving the mainpage and my thoroughness in PubAd and reporting violations. Now instead of him getting a pile of reports from me on things that need to be taken care of, he gets a pile of reports on things he doesn't have to worry about anymore due to my having already done them, which allows him to focus more on improving the rest of the site. So far, it seems to be paying off, though we still have a ways to go.
We aren't about to give up on FSTDT.
