Mens' Rights Online is beyond reason. Though I do agree with them on some things like it's terrible that:
-a man can't defend himself against a woman without worrying about going to jail -a man has to fight for custody of children in a divorce -men totally get screwed over in divorce court -women aren't prosecuted very much when they are violent against men
They're convinced women have always had more rights than men, and that all feminists are trying to take over the world. Talking sense to some of them is about as hopeless as teaching calculus to my dog.

That's the sad part. There really are a few legitimate issues that need to be addressed, particularly when it comes to divorce. But they've taken it to such an extreme it's hard to understand how they can sleep at night knowing they were born from one of those horrible women.

It's kind of impressive in a retarded kind of way. What's kinda sad is a lot of the guys I know have some opinions that swing this way. I mean, evidently nowhere near as bad as MRO, but a cursory glance puts these guys in the "batshit crazy" category without a doubt. But in my experience, there is an undercurrent that probably helps to embolden these guys. But yeah, some of the stuff I read was so over the top I couldn't believe it was true.

-a man can't defend himself against a woman without worrying about going to jail This is actually what happened to actor Sasha Cohen. Cohen's wife got high and started attacking their kids, so Cohen used his martial arts training to take her out. In retaliation, she claimed that he'd abused her. This cost Cohen his day job on "Step by Step" and resulted in his being typecast in martial arts films since those were only directors who'd still work with him. ** A few years ago, there was a men's rights site known as "Save The Males." Although they tended to be tongue-in-cheek at times, their arguments were normally quite sound and they tended to be pretty mainstream. If you still want to do some reading, I'd suggest checking them out.

Also, the courts have more or less vindicated him, and he has full custody of his children. Just to correct you though, he has continued to get work (not just martial arts films) since then, true he hasn't landed a role like he had on Step by Step, or had on Dallas since then, but those were his two notable roles, before those he did bit parts, and he's been doing bit parts since. It's impossible to say the bearing the accusations had on his career. In 2004 and 5, he appeared multiple times on ER, for example. A few years ago, there was a men's rights site known as "Save The Males." Cause, that group is anything but mainstream, and anything but 'sound'.

Another concern for men, and one that I think the feminist movement should try to address, is rape. Women are raped much more often than men, but many men are in fact victims of rape. While the social stigma associated with rape has begun to lift for women, I see no evidence that this is the case for men.
Rape, being a crime of power, carries an extra stigma for men, who are seen as being in a dominant position over women. I am convinced that the incidence of rape in men is under-reported, as those who fall victim would be hugely humiliated by being victimized in a way that is usually associated with women. And the stud/whore double standard can come back to bite men who are raped, as many would be convinced that no man would ever turn down sex with a women and such things. The support structure is also lacking in this regard.
I think that feminist organizations could help here, as this would tie into our overall goal of breaking down traditional gender distinctions, and it is the right thing to do. If anybody knows of such organizations taking part in this sort of service, I would be grateful for a link.

If you still want to do some reading, I'd suggest checking them out. What martial art did he employ? I had about a 18 months of Aikido and Jujutsu before my shoulder injury, and I'm positive that even with my limited training, I can handle most people without injuring them. Whether I will or not is another thing, but there are ways to take someone down without even hurting them. So ignoring the fact that you were wrong about the repercussions, how he did handle this might be an important issue, you know. An Aiki practitioner will probably have a better response than a boxer. And while I'm not going to pretend there's no sexism involved in a man defending himself against a woman, I would like to point this out. I am 6'5". I get about the same reaction from fighting a man 6" shorter than me that I would fighting a woman. It's sexist to perceive all women as weaker, but there is also the simple factor of size and appropriate response. Even worse if you're a martial artist.

I'm actually familiar with "Save the Males", having encountered them a few years back - I'm only familiar with this one group, and it definately is the same group I encountered before. I don't think you have this correct.

Slander is a crime if I'm not mistaken. If you can't even get the subject of your muck-raking correct, why the fuck should anybody listen to you at all? You couldn't even acknowledge your error after it was politely pointed out to you. Nice research there, buddy-boy. Real professional-like.
